2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
The best of the Biere de Gardes I’ve tried. It tasted how French stubbies used to taste to me before I got into good beer, and started to find them disgusting.
YBasically it’s a very straightforward lager, amped-up to 7% with prominent, bitter/herbal noble hops and and a very dry, cerealy finish.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Smells of grassy hop, clove, bit of wheat and yeast. Tastes of grassy hop, Belgian spice, corn. Body is medium slick, spicy/fizzy and quite smooth. Plenty of barnyard in this bier de garde but taste doesn't have much depth.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Nice completely crisp amber and copper coloured body with a two centimetre tall just off-white head. Aroma of grass, malt, light hops, alcohol and a smooth bit of apricot and fruits. Medium-bodied; Assertive malt and herbs at first in the taste with a little sweetness and a touch of honey noticeable right afterwards. Aftertaste shows some grassy, herbal and spice notes throughout with a good balance of the malt and a touch of the spicy yeast as well. Overall, a decent biere de garde that is slightly pale in the spice and grassy character, but still shows enough. I sampled this full 75 cL bottle purchased from City’Super! in Harbour City, Kowloon, Hong Kong on 02-July-2014 for just HK$43,00 sampled back in my hotel room in Wan Chai, Hong Kong on 03-July-2014.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle. Dark golden in colour, the head is minimized vey quickly. Malty aroma with hints of some fruits, citrusy maybe. In taste again sweet, malty and some Belgian notes and metalic flavour. Medium to low body, low carbonated and low bitternes. There are better blonds.

2.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle, labeled "bière blomde à l’ancienne". Deep yellow colour, big head, quickly vanishing.
Strong malty flavour, slightly bitter finish.
Nice alternative to the boring standard stuff available in southern France supermarkets.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Its body has a deep orange amber color with a good cloudy appearance and a tall off white head. The head quickly fades down to a thin cap which then holds on well making spotty slick lacing on the glass. The aroma is very wheaty and bready. Underneath that are some light citrusy notes of hops. The flavor has dry wheat, light grain and light bready malty notes throughout. Towards the finish a light touch of citrus hops moves in and adds some bitterness for balance. The finish is quick, snappy and dry. The palate has a medium well carbonated feel. Overall it is a very nice Biere de Garde with loads of tasty wheat maltiness. Everything else is right on par for the style.
