A Mes rate: 33cl bottle shared with Gavsta and Rascal while trying to persuade Gav not to trash the hotel room. Golden colur with a thin white head. Sweet alcohol with huge hoppage and some nice spice. Slight sweetness from the malt but over all it’s all about the hops. Bit of sweetcorn too. Bitter hoppy finish. Not particularly interesting but enjoyable to drink.

I found this one tucked away in a cupdboard. It may be a biere de garde but I had unfortunately gardee'd it for 5 years past the best before date. Nonetheless, it was still quite drinkable. Poured entrirely flat with no head but developed a petillant spritz on the palate. Curious muted apricot colour, no doubt due the length of time in bottle and not entirely clear. Nose was appley/cidery/citric, with slight vinous and malty undertones. Quite clean and sharp on the palate, with some sweetness. The sharpness lingered on the finish long after other flavours had subsided. All in all though, surprisingly pleasant for a beer 5 years out of date. Must get some more and re-rate when fresher. Bottle, December 2003. RE-RATE: One hour later and nearing the bottom of the 750ml bottle and I have indigestion already. The acidic/cidery character no doubt contributed. Deduct one point.

Bottle acquired in trade with boutip (thanks!). Poured a medium golden color with an averaged sized white head. Aromas of spices, citrus and hay. Tastes of lighter spices, citrus, and hay. Sweet tasting. Light alcohol in the finish.

Nice nose of spice with a nice amber robe. The mouthfeel is malt, wheat and spices, between a weisse and a pils. Not as much body as typical Biere de Garde I tried but still an enjoyable little beer.

500 ml can. Canned Biere de Garde... now there’s a good idea. Very pale golden brew with a creamy white head. Aroma is lightly malty with a faint spiciness and some soft woody hops. A fairly assertive earthy/spicy bitterness. As it opens up, there is a also a soft perfumey yeastiness with a touch of mint, honey and light rosemary herbaceous flavour. Nice soft palate, light herbs and spices over a softly fruity yeastiness. This is a pretty nice beer really... sort of a strong Belgian/saison combination. Finishes quite dry.

UPDATED: FEB 13, 2004 Not much aroma at all, but certainly nothing off-putting. Looks very drinkable in the glass with a lovely golden colour and a nice head. Good lacing throughout the drink. The taste is pleasant but slightly too sweet for my liking. A tad chewy due to its strength. I have drank this on several occasions previously, and feel I've enjoyed it more than I did today. No doubt will drink and enjoy more again.

UPDATED: NOV 16, 2008 33cl bottle. Sweet malts, honey and flowery hops with caramel. Maybe some raisins too. Frothy white head with decent lacing. Clear body. Taste is salty and yeasty with some nuttiness and metal in the finish. Dry and fizzy. Overall nothing to really write home about. Rerate thanks to bu11zeye. Pours a clear gold with a white head that leaves great lacing (AP:4/5). Aroma is diaceeytl, caramel, toasted bread and a bit husky towards the finish (AR:6/10). Taste is husky and vegital with DMS and diacetyl. Very off flavored, unbalanced and crude with light caramel. (F:3/10). Fizzy but smooth from the DMS (P:3/5). (O:12/20)::2.8

A fresh harvest of barley, hops and grain rests on the windowpane…It heralds Grandpa’s old recipe…Sweet, winey, with drops of vanilla, it is sure to make you think of your ancestors…

Mine was 7.2% not 7.9%. Odd...Anyway, considering the alc content this is quite a thin tasting beer. Refreshing, but too simple.
