Bottle: First rating for this brewery, a great soft, subtle beer with nice blending of malts and spices. A great session beer but with care @ 7.8% ABV. Food Pairing: Cheese platter.

750ml bottle served in a chalice glass. A: Pours a dark yellow to orange color. A bit cloudy. Forms a medium, creamy and very persistent white head with lots of lingering lacings formed and left in the glass S: Sweet and very grainy. Fruity, bready and and a little bit spicy. Quite Belgian character which is common on the French CH’TI beers. Also light notes of honey, orange zest, spices and flowery hops T: Follows the nose as a quite sweet and malty beer. Fruity esters. Strong notes of bready and earthy yeasts, again, Belgian character. Also some notes of honey, coriander and orange zest which reminds a classic Belgian Triple. End is dry with a mild hoppy bitterness M: Full body. A little bit molasses. Good carbonation to the style. Dry crispy and grainy aftertaste O: Average beer and drinkability. Not that bad for a French Ale [ BA Review @ 3/25/2013 ]

(Bottle) Clear golden amber with reasonable white head. Rather harsh aroma of grassy and metallic hops. Light bodied and fizzy. Rather odd flavour profile. Rather harsh peppery spice notes from start to finish, with some honey and banana ester notes. Distinctive but not particularly pleasant.

Kind of sweet, kind of bitter, but doesn’t really taste like anything. Better than tasting bad, I suppose, but I certainly won’t be travelling halfway around the world to get another taste.

Bottle. A somewhat flat and weak head but this give quickly gives way to a floral and nice aroma (with hints of honey). A nice, strong beer with hints of wheat.

Bottle from French supermarket. Pours golden and sparkling with a frothy white head. The taste is pleasant enough. Bitter with a little spice. I found this a bit thin on flavour, aside from some slightly metallic notes and some citrus as it warms. Refreshing and drinkable, but a bit disappointing.

The name of this bičre de garde promises ’good ale’... Thick and firm, snow white, moussy head, pure amber colour. Subtle smokiness in the nose, earthy, apple, pear, melon, dried apricots, sweet tobacco, iron, bit sweaty, honey, caramel and unfortunately DMS (cooked cauliflower). Rounded palate, fruity with soft carbonation, mildly sweet, bit honeyish, metallic, sharp spicy notes and something chemical in the finish, paint-like, even to an extent where it becomes wry. Everything but a good ale. Wasn’t this brewed at ’Proef’brouwerij in the past?
