3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
33 cl bottle. Deep amber-ruddy colour with a creamy off-white head. The aroma is lovely, soft rich toasted Belgian malt, a bit of soft tartness on the nose as well. Light plumminess and a bit of cherryish fruitiness. Even a bit of earthiness and light saisonish, cork notes. Great balance, some nice light tart fruitiness on the back. The tartness fades a bit as it warms and there is a soft plummy sweetness. Good balance and a lovely, tasty brew.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
draught at Kerstbierfestival 2007: medium to dark copper with yellow highlights. Cream colored head doesn’t stick around too long. Aroma of yeast, tart fruits, somewhat earthy hops, and the usual spices. Caramel malt flavors with nutty notes, ambiguous mixed fruits, and yeast character. Some earthiness comes through in the finish. Not a bad beer but it lacks interest.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Cloudy dull orange/copper. Large off-white belgian head that diminishes moderately quick, but leaves plenty of lacing. For a 8.5% Belgian Christmas beer, this one takes life lightly. Its yeast is delicate, procuring soft pear esters while the clean malts offer a nutty milky brazil nut tang. No spiciness noticed outside an unconfident nutmeg/cinnamon character. Hops are a no show as well despite occasionnal mildly earthy/leafy touches. Still, while not dry, it never feels too sweet. Almost no bitterness, but the finish still fits the flavour development. No particular intense flavour seem to grow on, even as it becomes warm. It remains a pleasant drinking beer, but more for its texture than actual flavours. Creamy, soft texture and engaging gentle carbonation might be its best features.

UPDATED: JAN 21, 2008 12oz bottle from 4 Seasons in Hadley MA. They said that this is the best Belgian Winter Beer that they had. It tastes like a spicy double. There are some nutty sweet flavs and some spice rack cinnamon and spice. Not bad at all.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Opaque amber pour with light tan head. Aroma is of raisens and dried mango, and candy sugar. Flavor is similar with some bready malt coming in near the finish. Like a less sweet, slightly bready version of a typical belgian strong.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Wow, only the second U.S. rating, beaten out by sheatripper, a fellow NYer. Different label, applied by Shelton Bros. and it states the beer is brewed in a castle, cool. The beer pours a dark murky brown color with amber highlights, absolutely no clarity. The medium head is at first very bubbly but fades rather quickly and leaves nothing behind. Aroma is a mix of light topical fruit and dark plum/raisin fruits. There is an light airy brown sugar/black bread. Taste is similar to the aroma, not very sweet because the plum/raisin dark fruits comes in at the end of the flavor. A lightly thick body offset by a strong carbonation (actually tickles my tongue because I just ate a lot of garlic). Makes the beer very easy drinking.
11.2 oz bottle (cap stamped L1010909, maybe best by 01/09), Corsendonk tulip glass.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Cloudy dark ruby with a lasting white head. Toffee and butterscotch dominates a very malty aroma. Sweet and malty flavour with a bunch of cinnamon.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
33 cl. bottle. Poured a cloudy dark orange with a frothy almond colored head. Kind of a fruitcake aroma--dried berries and candied peel with some underlying maltiness and spices. Moderately sweet flavor of caramel/toffee malts with dried fruits and herbal notes, and a bit of spice. Off-dry finish. Nice flavors in this, nothing over the top. Pretty good.
