COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ath, Belgium, the City of Giants, is famous for its annual Parade of Giants. Every year, Goliath – whose name is pronounced ‘Gouyasse’ in the local dialect – leads the parade. The Brasserie des Géants (Giants’ Brewery), in Ath, didn’t think long before naming its first brew ‘Gouyasse.’ Gouyasse is a golden Belgian ale, and a nice one, at 6% alcohol by volume.
Only trouble is, the Gouyasse, at a respectable but not intimidating 6% abv, was not ferocious enough to carry the name of the mythical giant, especially here in the U.S., where we like our beers big – the bigger the better. And so it was that we proposed to the brewery a stronger beer, with the name Goliath. They came back with Goliath Tripel, which they have also packaged for sale in Belgium. It’s become their biggest seller there in very short time.
Goliath is 9% alcohol by volume, a little more red in the face than your average tripel (almost an amber, really), nicely balanced with a bracing hop note versus a solid malt wallop. Goliath is the only Tripel in Belgium that is all-malt – without any sugar or other additives in. (Everyone else uses some sugar to ‘thin out’ their Tripels, which gives them alcohol, without the body that you normally get from malt.) That means Goliath starts out a bit sweeter than some, but over time, as the live yeast in the bottle do their work, it gets drier and more punchy. The first batch, after about half a year in the bottle, is about where we want it, but it will probably become a greater beer as time goes by. We recommend that you check in on Goliath every once in a while.

Hazy orange. Fluffy head. Nice cookie dough nose. Good yummy spiciness. Alcohol is there for sure. Nice and delicate.

Cloudy orange/copper. Thick, bubbly, white head. Yeasty malt aroma. Yeast, malt, dark dried fruit, alcohol flavors. Slightly roasted aftertaste with some warming alcohol. Full body- creamy and generously carbonated at the same time. I prefer most triples just a little bit colder than room temperature, but this one was better closer to fridge temp. If you like giant malt you’ll be all over this one.

Bright, peachy color, thoroghly hazed, abundant head, lush and pillowy...classic look! Aroma: sour, funky fruit, spices, ..zesty, but not amazing. A blast in the mouth, dominated by tart citric fruit, pineapple and peach, bitter hops and funky yeast. Juicy, more than anything. An interesting beer, a tasty one, but rather odd, and incohesive. Medium to full in body, with a weird, sourish finish. And another crazy thing, I can’t feel the 9% ...not yet... I’m liking it more as the contents of the bottle diminish, yet it still lacks a certain spark, the kind we really look for in a Belgian ale of this kind. Goliath gets warmer, the abv speaking up, and all is mellow. Nice.

wow love the color.Pours a cloudy honey color with a hugh pillowy head that laces and sticks to the sides of the glass.sweet aromas of fruit.Starts of sweet then becomes crisp then the alcohol bite just barely. Not bad from such a young brewery.

The body pours a copper hue with edges of gold. The head a silky cobweb like foam, rocky, tall and brawny. The aroma is dusty and natural. Flavor starts off light, a bit musty and yeasty; however as the beer warms, sweet fruity esters begin to arise; hints of apple, and pear along with plum and tangerines. The sweetness is never overwhelming, as I would have suspected from such a high gravity Belgian. The yeast adds a nice funky farmyard characteristic… cut hay and tall damp grass. A wonderful palate… airy yet slick… I truly enjoyed this offering!

Sweet "Belgian" smell of spun sugar and yeast. Honey gold color with a huge Belgian head. very nice looking beer. Spice, dough and spun sugar flavors. Again very typically Belgian profile. Great, but not exactly groundbreaking Belgian Ale. As a side note the English label is MUCH cooler than the Belgian label.

For some reason I labeled thsi "goliath"... Anyway, solid gold body, steady white frothy head. Strong belgian banana and flowery aroma. Soapy belgian yeast taste, with some flowers. Very soft and velvety. Good stuff.

Pours a clear golden with a thin puffy white head. Has some hay and barnyard aroma with sweet caramel Belgian maltiness and some floral character. Body starts rich, malty and sweet with plenty of carbonation and a dry floral, yeasty finish. Nicely balanced and interesting, very similar to a saison. Thanks to JPDIPSO for sharing!

Cloudy orange body under a thin white head. Sweet/yeasty tripel aroma. Big, substantial sweet tripel flavor with peppery, leafy hops.

A little haze with a glowing amber color. Has a head that hovers at a quarter of an inch, and is foamy, bubbly and white. Nice lacing as well. Smells like a farmhouse yeast conjecture. Some banana bread in the aroma and some effervescent lemons. Hits the palate and makes a nice first impression. Carbonation subsides to a creamy effervescent tingle. Hints of candi sugar manifest, bringing the flavor to evolve into something that reminds me of one of those buttered Christmas cookies in the pretzel shape that comes out of those seasonal tins. Nice and creamy with pervasive fullness. Really good stuff here. Thanks to JPDISPO for bringing this to the party!
