3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Ughsmash (5833) - Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA - JUL 27, 2009
Bottled. Poured clear, medium reddish-amber with a creamy, well-formed cap of beige head. The aroma picked up raisins, figs, and dates with a little caramel support and a lovely dose of peppery yeast.. some spearmint accent that grew as it warmed up. The flavor opened with tangy yeast and minty notes, followed closely by raisins, sweeter chocolate, and caramel.. coriander and spicy yeast laced throughout.. finished with mint, dark fruit, and a pinch of licorice.. long peppery aftertaste. Medium-plus bodied and well-carbonated on the palate.. a bit too aggressive and sharp on the back-end.. filling in the belly. This was drinkable and interesting, but not great.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Fin (5749) - Merton, Oxfordshire, England, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - DEC 23, 2007
Bottle picked up from Hop Duvel Warehouse Gent Poured lighter and than expected, with a typical Belgian nose, sweetness and yeast dominate some nice soft carbonation, this is fine but no great shakes
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Rciesla (5498) - Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA - DEC 7, 2009
Bottle. Pours a murky brune sludgy body with a tan head. Incense, ginger root, light dirt and earth foliage aroma, that’s subdued and almost drying. Lighter malt bill but well disguised due to the domineering nature of the spices. Sharp alive carbonation that prickles at your palate with a cinnamon, ginger, vanilla tone. To be straight forward the spices dominate this beer, so as long as you enjoy that, this should be quite warming on a winter eve.
4.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 Travlr (5396) - Washington, Washington DC, USA - DEC 16, 2009
Bottle courtesy of Greg Engert at Churchkey.
Chestnut/amber color with a large white head, long-lasting, with great lacing.
Subtle aroma of spice, maybe cinnamon and nutmeg.
Flavor begins with light mixed winter spice, then grass, then malt, then pumpernickel bread, and finishes with a faint bitter edge. Nicely complex.
Great body.
My second favorite Christmas beer of the 2009 season so far, very nice indeed.

Hazy to cloudy orange umber color. Big bubbled fluffy taupe head. Toffee and spices of nutmeg, cloves, ginger and allspice. Heavy spice flavors from the start. Toffee and fruit cake flavors unite. Rum sweetness. Somewhat burning in feel. Actually the feel itself is smooth and light, but the burn kicks in an roughs things up. Some nice flavors, but a bit rough in spots.

Sampled on 12/9/2009. This Belgian Strong Ale pours a medium orange brown color from a 33cl bottle. Medium sized white foamy head with nice lacing. The aroma is fruity, sweet, yeasty and spicy. A medium bodied Belgian Strong Ale. The malts are caramel, brown sugar, molasses and sweet. The hops are herbal. Spicy and estery. Lively carbonation. Interesting beer. Hides the alcohol well. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter and spicy.
