Pours a chestnut brown with reddish highlights. Thick fluffy tan head. Nose is full of brown sugar, molasses, and spearmint. Complex flavor starting sweet, mixing in spices and molasses, and ending with slight earthy bitterness fading to a long spruce finish. A wow beer for sure.

Bottle courtesy of Greg Engert at Churchkey.
Chestnut/amber color with a large white head, long-lasting, with great lacing.
Subtle aroma of spice, maybe cinnamon and nutmeg.
Flavor begins with light mixed winter spice, then grass, then malt, then pumpernickel bread, and finishes with a faint bitter edge. Nicely complex.
Great body.
My second favorite Christmas beer of the 2009 season so far, very nice indeed.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 rangerred (340) - Johnson City, Tennessee, USA - DEC 13, 2011
11.2oz bottle poured into a tulip.
Pours a deep dark reddish brown with a small fizzy head. Decent lacing though.
Smells of cherries and dark frutis; figs and plums. A very faint chocolate note as well.
The taste has underlying notes of chocolate with cherries and dark fruit being most prominent. The finish brings out almost a woodiness that is hard to describe. Finished pretty clean with the alcohol well-hidden and barely detectable.
Overall a pretty respectable brew and one that is good for cold winter nights.

Drank from the tap at the Blind Tiger Ale House in NYC. Tons of stuff going on in this beer. Sugar, spices, a little bit of fruit, and some breadiness all mix together to make an interesting beer.

Looks like I’m going against the grain on this one since I thought it was great. This was like a nice BSA without the candi sugar ~ kind of like a berliner weiss without the syrup or something. Pours nice deep bronze with a pillowy beige head. The aroma has dry caramel, lots of biscuit malt, cinnamon, basement musky funk, minor anise and light Belgium yeastiness. Medium / full body that’s quite rounded with lively carbonation. The flavor starts with cinnamon, nutmeg, dry caramel, crackers, nice earthy yeastiness and overall dryness. The finish continues to be very dry and has some graham cracker characteristics. This is very nice. It reminds me of Brasserie des Rocs without the sweetness ~ both excellent, but the sweetness makes them distinctly different.

330ml bottle from 2007 served in a Duvel tulip. Dark garnet pour topped by a fluffy inch of off-white head. Smells of dark fruits, brown sugar, red wine. Tastes of molasses, dark fruit, pepper. Nice carbonation, it left a slight sting on the tip of my tongue and combined with the alcohol to warm the throat. In my opinion it is much better than the ratings show.

Delicious beer, purchased during the after-Christmas clearance at Beertopia, lucky us. The color of gingerbread cake, with an aroma like bread pudding - both qualities that I find desirable in a Christmas beer. Smooth, rich, thick palate. Lots of flavor. Spiced, winter fruits, nuts and delicious. Like a german fruit and chocolate bar without the chocolate.

Bottle. Pours cloudy, somewhere between copper and brown, with a firm white head consisting of tiny tight bubbles. Aroma is big on fruit. Cherry (sweet and sour), pineapple, grape, strawberry. Also there is a strong caramel component and some vague spiciness, the least vague of which is coriander and black pepper. Vanilla? Thick, sweet and not cloying. Good balance of spice and fruit with a nice softness. Dry finish. This is very drinkable with restrained spices and nice balance. Alcohol is very well-hidden.

Aroma is a bit too soapy clean. Looks great. Flavor has a nice spice; actually seems like a bit of pumpkin more than anything else. Smooth finish but only a decent body.
