For more than a century, Saison Voisin was beloved in the famous Hainaut region of Belgium until, in 1989, Leon Voisin closed the little brewery where it was made. The Brasserie des Géants, or ’Giants Brewery’, revived this rustic and historic ale with Monsieur Voisin’s blessing in the year 2001, using an original recipe from 1884. It is light on the tongue and refreshingly fruity and bitter, as a true saison should be.

Bottle: Served in a Chouffe glass: Very big and thick white foamy head, disappears really slowly. Cloudy to hazy orange colored body. Aroma of pils malts, glue, yeast, some stingy orange and stingy apricot, light dust and some stingy grainy wood. Flavours of wood, yeast, dust, fruity, orange, citrus, stone, earth, grains, bitter, herbs, way better than the aroma! Aftertaste is bitter, yeasty, light fruity, herbal and some grains. Medium carbo, creamy mouthfeel, medium bodied and a creamy texture. Aroma is not much but the taste is good!

Decent beer, but a bit flat for a saison. It was a bit dry and bitter, but not nearly enough.

Bottle in the flat in Sofia, Bulgaria. Many thanks to Liubo for the bottle! Pours clear gold, mildly effervescent with a large, frothy white cap. The nose has some melon, yeast, dough, hints of horse blanket. Medium sweet flavor with dry dough, melon, bubblegum, papaya, mild hay. Medium bodied with lively carbonation. Moderately sweet to finish with further tropical fruit characteristics, white bread, dry dough, some grainy bread, hay. Quite nice overall, really. Well balanced, pretty clean, interesting..
