For more than a century, Saison Voisin was beloved in the famous Hainaut region of Belgium until, in 1989, Leon Voisin closed the little brewery where it was made. The Brasserie des Géants, or ’Giants Brewery’, revived this rustic and historic ale with Monsieur Voisin’s blessing in the year 2001, using an original recipe from 1884. It is light on the tongue and refreshingly fruity and bitter, as a true saison should be.

Bottle. Overripe fruit, a bit of roast malt, and something pissy. Thin clear gold color, good lace. Rich fruit initial, with some smoke notes / deepens to tobacco and hard hopping / final stretches the fruit into a trickle and leaves with tiny bitter notes. Thin body. Some interesting and unusual flavors, to be sure... but a saison?

330ml bottle from Vanuxeem. Firstly what a great label & a huge improvement on the one in the photo up there. This is a fresh, fragrant Saison bursting with a delicious Belgian yeast that could be mistaken for a Tripel. Very full flavoured for 5%. This will definitely be making a return to my fridge.

Light amber golden colour, white head. Quite hoppy aroma, grass, hay, malts. Quite bitter flavour. Hops, light spicy. Bitter finish, malts. Nice beer.

2013 bottle pours a vivid deep yellow with foamy white head. Nose is light citrus and hops. Fresh taste, slight passion fruit and moss. Tame palate, light for a saison. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle @ home. 5%. Aroma is dry fruits with spice and yeast. Flavour is dry fruits with peppery yeast and some spice. Long lingering bitter finish. Okay.

Bottle 33cl. Copper color. Strangly malty and sweet for a saison. Far from my idea of season.

Nussig und hopfig mit einer netten Nase, die Lust auf mehr macht. Voller Körper, dennoch einfach trinkbar und mit einer wundervollen Mundfülle versehen. Sehr interessant.

After some bad Belgian experiences, I still had certain hopes into this one and luckily I didn’t get disappointed. It has got a hazy orange-brown colour with airy steady head and medium body. Nose of nuts and hops. Taste of dusty fizzy hops, fresh grains, light green nuts, light Belgian yeast and torf. Easy to drink and quite refreshing. Good one, enjoyed it a lot.

Clean, light brown body with small creamy off white head. Alcoholic, raisin, clean yeast, simple malts. Way too clean and sugary. Taste is as expected then, with a warming alcohol, no dry or crisp body, no hops... Even as a general Belgian ale it’s much poorer than expected. A shame. (33cl bottle from Bierparadijs)

Bottle from Kris Wines. Quite dark coppery colour, good lacing. Quite malty initially, some toffee and caramel. Pleasant slightly earthy bitterness. Yeasty character gradually asserts itself, quite full and fruity. For some reason my expectations were modest for this beer but it was actually rather pleasant, just more at the normal ale with a twist end of the saison spectrum, you can see why the style nazis get worried.
