COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Hampshire has a huge toasted malt flavor balanced by assertive hoppiness. The finish is long and lingering with the malt and hop notes blending with alcohol warmth. Two row English malts (pale, crystal and chocolate); Cascade, Mt. Hood and East Kent Golding hops.

2001-2002 edition: At this level of alcohol (7% abv) this is stronger that most EPAs I’m used to. Slight warming as it goes down and noticeable malt presence. Bitter and slightly syrupy, like a barleywine.

UPDATED: JUN 14, 2005 00-01 release: Impressive fluffy, rocky foam atop this copper color. sharp Strong Ale-like aroma shows crystal malt, subtle orange rind, and toffee. I can see that aging this has converted the palate into a gem. Many may interpret it as being watery. But this is a blissful texture; and one of the best I have experienced; creamy, fluffy, and perfectly soft. Flavors are impressively subtle and refined. Cherry, tolerable note of acidity, mild plum, and caramel. Finishes with a touch of brown sugar, cotton candy, cream, and coffee. This is absolutely mellow and classy.

2001-2 bottled. Beautiful apple juice color topped by lasting creamy large head; nose of citrus, apples, caramel malt, nice but on the weak side. Flavor outstanding, thick and sweet and heavy for a pale ale, a little light for a barley wine, my predecessors in rating have it all right. Very drinkable despite the high sweetness and thickness; some pepperiness and decent hoppiness help. Far better than the overrated porter and pale ale from these folks.

00-01 Edition.Hint of malt in the aroma. Nice malt flavor with a touch of bitterness. Alcohol comes through slightly. An enjoyable brew.

(00-01 edition) Clear amber/orange color. Thin head and lace. Huge nose of cookie dough like malt, caramel, maybe a touch of cinnamon or nutmeg(there is some kind of spice) and others. Medium bodied. Huge, rich malty backbone, assertive but well melded hopping, wisps of caramel, spices and chocolate, all infused wonderfully with a cozy alcoholic warmth. More like a lower abv barleywine then a pale ale. This is outstanding.

UPDATED: JUL 1, 2009 A sheet of foam tops the blackened auburn...Beautiful bed of caramel on which lie some freshly toasted bread with roasted crumbs…Orangey hops enliven the sweet aroma and portend the long-lasting, spicy and wooden hop bitterness...This is round but very drinkable and balanced for a strong ale...

(2001 - 2002 edition): Clear deep amber, creamy beige head and tons of lace. Nose is sweet, caramel, a bit of the old ’Hop Floral’, also noted. Front is sweet, the top light to medium, the finish has a great hop spicy bite, dry, acidic and quite ’Quaffable’. Like Mikey, I like It!.

Cherrywood color; Thin and fizzy head; Alcohol nose. A real dissappointment- I had been really looking forward to this one and actually opened it up in a fit of spontanaity(sp?). Tiny bit of citrus. Malt was just medium. Decent mouthfeel, not very assertive. I wanted this beer to blow me away but instead it just spared the hell ouotta me.

01/02 What an enjoyable beer. floral aroma, starts malty and leads to a very nice floral bitterness. Wonderful long lasting finish.
