COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Beer #2 of 4 in a special release series celebrating Geary’s 20th Anniversary. Imperial IPA has its origins in the traditional English style, with a generous helping of American exuberance. Bright copper in color, Imperial IPA has an assertive hop bitterness balanced with a subtle malt foundation. Dry-hopping at two stages of the brewing process provides floral and fruity hop flavors adding to the complexity of the brew. Strong, assertive and balanced, Imperial IPA is made for true beer lovers.

I really like everything gearys makes and this is no exception. I think it’s their blend of malts that I like so much. The hops won’t exactly wow anyone, but I didn’t expect it to be a hoppy ipa. It’s really just a high alcohol pale ale... But if you did the gearys flavor you will love it,

Bottle. Poured a deep orange red body with thin head. Aroma is faint hops and citrus. Flavor is light citrus, caramel. Nice mouthfeel and very quaffable. As it warmed I found it to be very satisfiying.

(Draft @ Damariscotta River Grill) Coppery orange body with a nice biscuit head. Aroma is mostly fruity hops, a little bready. Good lacing. Fairly heavy, full mouthfeel. Taste is fairly bitter right on through from start to finish. Bitterness overlays pleasant fruity hop flavor. Seemed a little musty as well. No alcohol apparency. Not much depth of flavor but I liked it for its lack of sharp sweetness and lack of big alcohol presence like other big IPA’s I’ve had. Much like a regular IPA except feels heavier and of course the higher ABV kick.

Had this on tap at Brian Borus’ in Portland. I think they just get it in this week. Pours a bright yellow orange color with small creamy head. Aroma is pungent with floral hops, some grapefruit and other citusy stuff. Flavor is dominated by hops, and grapfruit and some spice, sweet. i think this is an Imp. IPA but the bartender just told me it was an IPA. thick and heavy mouth feel. Quality beer, i would have probably rated much high if i was a bigger fan of IIPAs

12 oz - The Wine Source. Dark copper, off white creamy head. Dried buttery citrus and spruce aromas warm to a light toffee raisin undercurrent. Dry citric-pine bitterness is nicely balanced on a buttery toast and toffee-like tone. Full bodied, soft carbonation, drying bitter finish. English in style, but I personally prefer West Coast style DIPAs...

Bottle thanks to bman1113vr. Pours a hazy amber with off-white head. Arom of aggressive hoppiness, grapefruit & pine. Flavor is malty, piny hops, alcohol spice, light caramel. Mouth feel is medium body with medium-high carbonation. Overall, not bad at all!

Sampled at American Craft Beer Fest 2010. Pours amber color. Aroma and flavor of a rich citrus / pine hops. Thick texture. A great imperial IPA.

Pours a three finger white head that fades slowly, leaving some lace. Almost clear amber color. Light grapefruit hops nose. Medium carbonation and medium bodied. Flavor is light sweet grapefruit hops. Not enough beef for an imperial IPA - needs more malt and hops. $2.70 for a 12oz bottle from Tully’s Beer & Wine Wells, Me.

Ha! Got you finally! It’s now bottled, but dont fall for that, get this on tap, its significantly better that way! The aroma is a bunch of floral piney hops, centennials maybe. Flavor is nice and bitter with a fair malt back bone to give it the needed oomph. I’m glad they re-released this because it was the only Geary’s brew I had managed to not track down for some time. Get it when you see it, especially on tap!
