Pours deep mahogany into a Thistle. Creamy tan head with excellent retention leaves spotted sheets as it slowly recedes to coat surface. Smoky chocolate aromas. Upfront creamy chocolate and soy turning smoky and licorice in middle and on to a lightly bitter lasting finish.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 ClarkVV (3579) - Allston, Massachusetts, USA - JAN 16, 2006
Draught pint at Redbones, 1/13/2006. Ruby-auburn highlights throughout a rich soily brown colored body. Clear, though not strikingly so, with a small, dense, beige head that does not seem to recede, though it dosent really create any lacing. Aroma of rich, salty, English toffee, sticky caramel and bits of milk chocolate with a green, floral hop note on the end that is somewhat drying, quite clean. Rich, sweet and lightly earthy/crusty it completely fills the nose, leaving little doubt as to the nature of the malt in the flavor. And sure enough, it is a sticky, fully malty, full bodied toffee, and sticky, caramel malt showing a lengthy boil. They didnt leave much room for wateriness in this one. A rich, soft chocolate and toffee guards against any significant dry breadiness, while just hints of plums and yeasty fruits are noticeable. Green floral hops, fresh and flavorful are noted on the end, as well. Touches of melanoidins here and there with some smooth creamy sweet sugars as the toffe lightens up somewhat. Texture is smooth and nearly creamy from the malts, but could be more fat and chewy were it not for the filtration. Carbonation is low to moderate, no alcohol perceived. Some additional complexity from the malt would not hurt.
1.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 Cavie (3382) - Fort Worth, Texas, USA - MAY 14, 2011
Bottle courtesy of Daniel Rowland. Look him up on google. Pours a dark ruddy brownish red color with a tannish style head. Aroma is....ok so here’s the deal. I was drinking this at frattos and then some folks drove into the park after hours to have sex. Me and pikapp327 dumped ours in the park and ran. I’ll just assume this was awful.

UPDATED: MAR 5, 2008 I purchased this bottle in Maine on Mt. Desert Island last summer and had it around for a while and felt like popping it open. Pours deep copper with a 1 finger tan head. Nose is sweet and has caramel notes. Taste is sweet, caramel rich and pretty nice overall with a malty backbone. Nice brew congrats on 20 hers to another 20. Anniversary on the bottle states 86-06 so I guess this bottle was about 2 years old.

Rating Geary’s 20th Anniversary Ale. Draft at HDG. Brownish/red with a decent head that doesnt last too long. Flavors are dried fruits, raisens and plums, caramel and a nice light smokiness. Chocolate and toffee with a nice maltiness round it out. Me thinks they could have gotten a bit more creative for their 20th Annivesary.

12 oz bottle from Canal’s Hainesport. Pours a deep brown with some dark ruby edges and a large foamy beige head that has some decent staying power. Aroma is strong with lots dark fruit, earth, peat, corn syrup, molassess and rum. Full body with a chewy mouthfeel and average carbonation, some noticable alcohol. Flavors of raisin, prunes, burnt caramel, peat and slight hint of smoke. This is one solid beer but it seems a tad bit hot for only being 8%.

Location: Draft at RnH, 2/19/11
Aroma: This one has a fairly subtle nose, light caramel and slightly fruity
Appearance: The pour is a dark red brown color with a small beige head
Flavor: The flavor is medium (plus) sweet with caramel, chocolate, and dark fruity notes
Palate: The mouthfeel was decent, medium bodied, but a touch thin with average carbonation
Overall Impression:
This one is a fairly sweet, but not bad scotch ale. I found it to be a touch too sweet but solid with the flavor being a little better than the nose.
