COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Geek Coconut Porter is a dark robust porter with a depth of flavour created from a wide range of carefully selected malts with the addition of toasted coconut. The intriguing aroma and rich chocolate flavour makes for a truly delicious beer. You could even say it’s Geekalicious.

I liked all the HTML stylesheet business going on the label but I wasn’t sure what to expect from the newly formed Geek Brewing. It poured a lot like Coca Cola: zero head, slightly translucent. Nose was pretty nice, bit of coconut and chocolate but not overly exciting. The taste was delicious though. Dark powdery cocoa with slightly sour coconut notes. Also dark stone fruit, berries... Very much enjoyed this. Tasted much like a less overly-sweet Bounty bar, as others have said.

Bottle on the 17.58 Waterloo - Windsor train thanks to WingmanWillis, 20/05/14. Off black with a big old light tan covering that stays for the show. Nose is milk chocolate, coconut shavings, light roast, maltesers. Taste comprises light roast, cocoa powder, lactic tang, Bounty Bar Junior, earthy tones. medium bodied, moderate carbonation, light dryness in the close. So so porter.

UPDATED: JAN 18, 2014 330ml bottle poured (in NZ) very dark brown, near black, with a tiny, short-lived head. Feel: Medium+ body and nicely smooth, with well-chosen medium-low carbonation. Aroma: caramel, roasted malts, coconut and a hint of vanilla. Enticing. Flavor: toffee, coconut and dark malts in a nicely balanced mix. O: easy drinking and very aromatic. Recommended. Slightly sweet, and works well as a dessert beer

This was awesome, I thoroughly enjoyed this. Good aroma, good appearance and a magnificent taste. I loved the toasted coconut finish at the end, really worth a try - really is something different from NZ.

Admittedly, just not my style... I’m not the biggest porter/stout fan, but thought this might be different & worth a try, but didn’t impress me unfortunately (then again very few porters do, even less than stouts). Sorry for the rating, but I just keep this as a log for myself....

UPDATED: JUN 8, 2014 Thoroughly enjoyed this beer to finish a session. Would be a superb beer to have with a dessert but can it can stand alone if required. Looking forward to many more beers from this promising brewer.

It’s ok. There are a smash of burnt fruits, chocolates and faint coconuts, but they could be turned up to 11, as it is though this lacks lenght, and turns into a rather sweet experience that might make it a longer drink than you’d like.

UPDATED: MAY 2, 2013 update on handpull: even better than what i remember from the bottle. husky coconut and sweet chocolate backed up by a fantastic creamy body of roasted malt. sweeter than i remember, which is just my thing. up the rating a little. truly delicious. original: just my sort of thing. the flavour is overwhelmingly of chocolate and coconut, which as everyone said makes one think of bounty bars. not too sweet though, quite nicely roasted, chocolates are dark and coconuts are dry and bitter. yum yum. another one i need to try again.

Rich chocolately and dark in colour with only the barest suggestion of head. That particular suggestion was dismissed by the board and so there is but the barest inkling of head left on top of the body of the beer. With the aroma the predominant initial scent is that of coffee, dark cocoa and then comes the distinctive nutty coconut, but you really have to dig into the organoleptic memory bank to get there. It could easily be missed, especially at colder serving temperature (mine was room temp). In the mouth there is that nod to cocoa coming through strongly along with a fine beaded carbonation. Other flavours include dates and faint licorice. The coconut seemed a little muted but for coconut husk and then the dried, roasted flesh comes through as it sits on the palate. There is gentle bitterness from the coconut that carries the flavour and indeed it becomes a little sweet, like Bounty bars the longer it stays on the tongue. Is this this brewery’s first commercial release? I would suggest that the brewer can be proud of what they have done, least of which is the creation of a desire for me to have a pint of this beer (rather than a bottle). Then I would like another pint thank you.

Find this beer to be interesting. Dark pours with chocolate malts on the nose. Palate is soft and cloying, but did find it a little too heavy that it made it a slow imbibe.
