A delicious dark and malty mild ale, easy to drink and smoothly bittered with Fuggles & Challenger hops.
Black Dub is a remote part of Geltsdale between Castle Carrock and Hornsby Gate. Dub or ’Dudgh’ is a Celtic word meaning a dark & marshy area.

500 ml bottle, from Matkroken Stokka. ABV is 3.6%. Very dark brown colour, nearly black. Low tan head. Aroma of over-ripe raspberries and blackcurrants, hints of liquorice. Smooth mouthfeel. Smooth flavour too, roast malts, mild coffee, dark chocolate, hints of raspberries, blackcurrants and liquorice. I’d like to sample this one again as fresh, but alas, the brewery is out of business.

Bottle picked up by dad from Geltsdale Brewery, cheers dad. Consumed at home Wednesday 21.08.13 Dark chestnut brown beer, off-white head. In terms of taste it is nutty, a touch watery in fact it has to be said this is very true to the style. It’s fine but hardly exciting, low bitterness, some caramel, difficult to knock it as it does exactly what it should do, mmhhhh.... maybe its a style I’ve left behind. A6 A4 T6 P3 Ov12 3.1

Very dark copper body with a smallish, short-lived, light-brown head. Quite strong malty aroma with lovely roasted notes, dark caramel, coffee and liquorice, but also some dark fruits and berries in the back. Light sweet taste with a light bitterness in the finish, which is a bit short. The flavours are as roasted and malty as the aroma, but again I get these delicate fruity hints that lifts this brew to a higher level. Rather thin mouthfeel with a dry and smooth texture and soft carbonation. A lovely beer, and I thought I didn’t like milds!
