A delicious dark and malty mild ale, easy to drink and smoothly bittered with Fuggles & Challenger hops.
Black Dub is a remote part of Geltsdale between Castle Carrock and Hornsby Gate. Dub or ’Dudgh’ is a Celtic word meaning a dark & marshy area.

Bottle. Beautiful black, scant head. Luscious cocoa and roasted nuts in the aroma. Palate has soft but lively carbonation. Would benefit from the softer mouthfeel a cask would give. The body is light and mild, and the flavors too rich to call it thin. The flavors are lovely, including rich chocolate, and the roast lingers on the tongue. Very nice.

Bottle (real ale), from some rural gas station in Cumbria, probably with some cows nearby. Dark brown body. The aroma has some chocolately fudge and light nuttiness. Slightly creamy character, again nutty and fudgey. A simple mild, but a tasty one.

On cask at The Paisley Beer Festival. Pours a very dark brown colour with a decent light tan head. Aroma of chocolate and roasty malt. Similar flavours with mild carbonation and lingering orange. Not bad.

Cask at troon beer fest 07... Deep fruity malts ; sweet fruity slightly meaty roast malts ... rich fruity malts. Unusualy for a mild i think this could do with more body and a bit higher strength. Its nice but could do with a bit more punch.

Cask, King’s Head, Carlisle. The most consistent of their beers and a fine dark mild. Lovely smooth mouthfeel, with hints of blackberrry. Slightly roast flavour and some caramel. Served through sparkler, so given a nice creamy, off-white head.. Pleasant deep ruby to black appearance.

Bottle shared with ClubGonzo and Veitafan. Have a clear and deep brown colour with a small beige head. The aroma has notes of roasted coffee, nuts and leather. The taste is like a light version of the aroma, and is both good and balanced. Mouth feel is light and smooth and, has a light bitterness. A well balanced and nice mild ale.

Medium dark beige head. Clear deep dark reddish body. Roasty earthy aroma with toffee and bread notes. Dry-sweet roasty chocolatey earthy taste with grainy strawy notes. Mid-to-light body. Mild, mealy mouthfeel. Dryish mealy resiny chocolatey aftertaste with minty dusty roasted grain notes. Lingering smoky notes. Really nice, and highly drinkable. Clean and vivid. (0.5l bottle, Meny Strømmen Storsenter.)
