COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We brewed this strong, Scottish-style ale with golden promise "whiskey" malt imported from Scotland. A bit on the sweet side, it has malty toffee and butterscotch flavors along with a full, slightly oily mouthfeel. The flavor finishes on the dry side with hints of brown sugar leaving you wanting more. Be careful, though, as its smoothness belies its strength.

On tap, at brewery. Pours a hazy dark copper body with a creamy tight bubbled beige head. Light nose, some caramel and toffee with some light english style hops and light alcohol. A little thin on the flavor, some toasted and caramel malts with light green leafy hops. Finishes with a touch of alcohol. Medium bodied with light soft carbonation. A little watery on the back end. Overall, a little too thin and weak, especially for something that’s billed as an 8% ABV beer.

Pours a cloudy brown color with no head. Aroma of nuts, toffee, and caramel. Flavor of brown sugar, toffee, and caramel with some chocolate. Strangest Scottish Ale I’ve ever had, but an enjoyable one nonetheless.

On tap (10oz) at the GLI. Poured a dark and cloudy brownish color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of nuts, toffee, caramel, and light chocolate. Tastes of nuts, toffee, chocolate, and I got some sweet plums. Brown sugary sweet as well. Some lacing left on the glass. As listed, I would not have pegged this as a Scottish Ale.

Old Curmudgeon’s flavor lies between a Scottish ale and an English Old Ale. Mild caramel malts sweetness with a tinge of smoke flavor. Just as the commercial description states its the is an easy drinker that may sneak up on you.

Copper pour, with aroma of caramel malt, oak, bourbon, fruit, and some rauchiness. Tastes complex, malty, with some toffee, oak, vanilla, scotch, and fig hints. Smooth finish, but lacking complexity. Decent.
