COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed to emulate the Honey Meads of the ancient Celts. 80 pounds of fresh frozen raspberries are used in each batch of this newly reformulated brew. Triple fermentation adds to the complexity and subtleties of this tasty, but unusual beverage.

Draft at Capone’s for his Black Friday Event. Pours a dark amber body with no head or lacing. Aroma is light fruit. Mouthfeel is extremely smooth, lacking flavor - pretty much just notes of raspberry and honey.

UPDATED: APR 26, 2005 Poured a pinkish gold color with no head, although it did leave some lacing. Sweet fresh sweet raspberry aroma. Sweet honey and slightly tart raspberry taste, it had some light carbonation. This was a nice mead. It was sweet and fruity. This was extremely enjoyable!

On tap at brewpub 2/1/07. Pours a light copper with a pinkish hue under a whispy thin film of off-white head. Nose is sweet with a fruity raspberry accent. Pretty clean aroma. Flavor is quite smooth and a good amount of very natural tasting raspberry flavor, but it doesn’t totally overpower the light floral honey. Mouthfeel is full bodied with nice pinpoint efforvescent carbonation keeping the sticky cloying tendency of the honey in check. Overall, not much experience with meads, especially with rating them, but this was really quite good.

Tap the the GLI served in a wierd wine glass/snifter. Pours a wierd hazy deep lavender pink with a fizzy film of a head. Aroma is of tart raspberries, sugar, light lactic acid, and lightly phenolic. Somewhat sweet upfront with the sugar and raspberries, but then it thins out becomes a bit more tart and the raspberries traiil off and leave room for a slightly sweet and slightly slick finish. Sparkling- with nice carbonation. I dont like still meads so this was nice, although I still get the impression that this has some malt in it like a fruit braggot but I could be wrong. Very nice if it is a straight up mead.

Draught at Brewery: Aroma of sweet raspberry. Poured a pinkish copper in color. Small white head. Very good lacing. Cloudy. Sparkling. Flavor of Raspberry. Starts out like cough medicne and and ends like raspberry Sprite. A little alcohol flavor as well. Sweet with a sweet finish. Full body. Syrupy. Average carbonation. I would get sick of the sweet raspberry flavor after a few of these. Very good mead. 9.6% ABV helps too.

Floral, honey sweetness with orange blossoms and berries in the aroma. Clear copper coloured body is topped by a low white head that recedes to ring. Berry-like fruitiness and lactic sweetness with some grainy malt and wheat character. Medium light body with smooth texture and fair carbonation. Sampled on tap at the brewpub with beerbuzzmontreal, MartinT, Rastacouere and Yowie.

Sampler at the brewpub. Pours a translucent orange with hints of pink and an average white head. Aroma of raspberry, honey, floral and hints of alcohol. Flavor had lots of raspberry up front, kind of artificial, dry honey, soda like qualities.

Sample at the Philly gathering, July 10. OK, this really didn’t work for me. Still slightly reddish-copper, with a very light but friendly fruit nose. Tart raspberries and sickly-sweet honey duke it out with alcoholic bitterness trying to break in...too acidic and unbalanced at the end. Nice try I guess.

Tap @ General Lafayette. Poured a mildly hazy dark golden amber color. The aroma had honey for sure but not much in the way of raspberry. The flavor had some honey and caramel with a mild-moderate sweetness. Medium bodied and silky. There was some raspberry on the very finish.

On tap at the brewery. Has a funky not quite skunky raspberry pale fruity aroma. Tart with a little rot and some floral notes. Mild hop bitterness, too. Clear golden amber with light haze, topped with tiny bit of white head. Medium watery body with light carbonation and some vapory notes. Starts fruity with nice notes of raspberry juice and some sweet honey. This is tasty but I don’t know if I’ve ever had something like this. Bit of an alcohol kick with some estery fruity vapors. Overall, it’s a nice little quaff, and the alcohol could easily sneak up on you. Dry honey-wheat after, with no bitterness.
