3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 whaleman (2176) - North Wales, USA - JUN 17, 2007
Deep amber body with some haze and a filmy off-white head. Dank, crusty hop aroma with a toasted malt underbelly and some apparent alcohol. Grainy, toasted bread character in the flavor with moderate sweetness and assertive, lacerative bitterness. Still solid, but a previous batch seemed a little more lively, particularly in terms of hop aromatics.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Dorwart (2160) - Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA - JAN 15, 2009
Thin dense head of fine bubbles and light carbonation. Nice hoppy aroma with plenty of spruce and citrus notes along with some sweet malts. Appearance is a cloudy dark mahagony brown. Nice hoppy bitterness in the flavor. Loads of spruce, caramel, roasted grains. Noticable alcohol presence. Very well balanced. Long warm finish with good bitterness and lingering maltyness. A damn good IPA. Hits all of the marks just a littlle bit weak in the aroma dept.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Ty5592 (1018) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 1, 2007
Cloudy dark amber color. Roasted hoppy nose with light floral notes. Very robust for an IPA. The taste was of roasted nuts as well as bitter hops. Full mouthful, great lacing.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 JB175 (1665) - Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 24, 2007
Amber color with a medium white head. Aroma is quite malty with just enough citrus and pine. Flavor is sweet & hoppy with lots of citrus, pine, and caramel maltiness. A really nice take on an IPA - a bit maltier and sweeter, but one of the better brews GL has put out recently.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 acearl (285) - The Ham, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 6, 2007
Brown hue, bone white lacing, bitter but not in the 90’s (IBUs,) metallic in flavor, some of the general brews are running together in my mind despite my best attempts to differentiate...So...so, there are better out there but locally still in the top 2.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 hopdog (7052) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 20, 2006
On tap at the GLI (I assume this is the one I had as I noted down IPA on my notes). Poured a medium amber color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of spices and citrus. Tastes of spices, citrus and light caramel. Medium bitter.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 DocLock (5971) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 17, 2006
Copper pour with aroma of caramel malt, hops, fruit. Tastes caramel malty, with backup hops and fruit, plus some spicy black peppery notes. Not a hop bomb, but subtlely and deceptively hoppy as it warms.
3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 michael-pollack (4880) - King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 15, 2006
Draught at Brewery: Faint hoppy aroma. Poured copper/orange in color with a big, creamy, off-white head that lasted. Cloudy and sparkling. Excellent lacing. Flavor was bitter and tasty. Notes of Simcoe hops and cream. Lightly sweet and moderatly bitter. Medium body. Short finish. Fizzy carbonation. Not as hoppy or bitter as Sly Fox or Weyerbacher Simcoe-based IPAs. Good, but not as good as its description makes it sound.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 scraff (2120) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - OCT 13, 2006
Deep amber, creamy white head. Nose was richly hoppy with pine, earth, and hints of sweet orange marmalade. Flavor was one in the same and very bitter throughout. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, bitter finish. Very good brew and just a bit off center from your typical IPA…
