A: Dark copper body. Large fluffy white head. Moderate retention and lacing.
S: Nutty, caramel maltiness is predominant. Slight earthy hop finish.
T: Mirrors the nose. Balanced but less complex than the better english ESBs.
M: Smooth. Medium-light body. Clean finish.
O: Sessionable. Lacking in complexity to push it up there with the better in this category.

Deep amber-brown beer with a thin white head. Aroma is lightly malty and a little bit hoppy. Quite earthy and a little bit chewy. Nice UK-type crackery malts and a fairly woody/earthy hoppiness. A bit of chewiness with a touch of wildflower honey. It’s definitely on the maltier side of bitters, but it’s a decent bitter nonetheless. Herbal and lightly chewy.

Union Jack greeted me with a hoppy and sweet aroma. Smooth Premium Bitter, well blended malt sweetness and bitterness. I imagine this is what Gale’s HSB would taste like fresh from the cask. I won’t be going to the UK anytime soon but Union Jack will keep my appetite for British style bitters satisfied.

Cloudy brown hue, diminishing tan with frothy head little lacing and little lacing , creamy texture, metallic... chalky but a hint of sugar...grainy, bitter aftertaste, held true English through and through, nitrogen pumped. Not my favorite style but good none the less.

Light amber pour with medium head. Aroma is pretty standard ESB. Taste is sweeter than most in the style with some graham cracker added with caramel and light hops. Tasty brew.

On tap at GLI. Deep gold/amber color with medium head and great lace. Aroma of malt, hops, fruit (apricots), some cinnamon and nuts. Tastes malty, hoppy, with some fruit at mid-palate and finish. Great balance and wonderful complexity. Subtle, as neither the hops nor the fruit are "in-your’face", but very well made, very British, very complex, and very damn good.

Poured a copper color with a thin off white film for a head, though it left no lacing on the glass. Aroma was sweet and malty. Taste was full of grains and straw, nutty finish. No fruitiness at all to this ESB, it was rather disappointing.
