Shag (1922), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA Apr 26, 2005 A vintage bottle from the cellar. The aging of this beer has apparently done wonders. A brownish red appearance with a large head. The aroma is grapes and wheat. The flavor is mainly sour grapes and nuts. It has a doughy flavor present as well. This one beats out Aventius for sure. Excelllent. Dorwart (1807), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA Aug 23, 2007 Hmmm. The Aug 2007 batch on tap is 9.1% ABV and some top notch schnit! Amazing head. About 1 inch and very dense and creamy. Great retention also. Light tan in color. Malty and yeasty aroma with a bit of roastyness and some dark fruit and wheat. Color is a cloudy dark brown. Flavor is smooth and sweet and flavorful. Lots of malts, fruit and a bit of oaky characteristics (slight sourness). Finishes pretty clean with a decent alcohol warming. A VERY good weizen bock. Hopefully they will still have this on talpwhen go back in a couple of weeks.
egajdzis (3602), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 11, 2004 Updated: Apr 22, 2005Vintage 2004... Poured an amber color with an off white head and light lacing on the glass. Sweet aroma of roast, caramel and clove. Taste of chocolate, clove, sour grapes, cherries, wood, and caramel and finally finishing spicy and very alcoholic. A year old is much better than a fresh sample. JB175 (1654), Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 20, 2007 Tap at GLI - ABV listed at 9.1%. Nice darker purple-brown (I think - its dark in GLI) color with a medium head. Aroma is very sweet with peach, tropical fruit, sweet malt, and yeast. Flavor is very sweet and malty with a nice hop bite. Wheat flavor is in there, but not as prominent as in most W-bocks. The classic GLI yeast is in there, giving it a taste similar to their La Tête Fontaine Dubbel. Overall very good - a nice take on a W-Bock. mkobes (2103), paramus, New Jersey, USA Jul 7, 2004 On tap at brewpub. Nice beer. Dark in color with a nice lasting head. Malty and sweet. Well balanced. Banana and clove. Noticeable alcohol burn. Full body. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 8, 2005 Amber color, with complex aroma of caramel malt, spices, toffee, nuts, figs. Tastes bocky, with some clove/banana elements at the finish. Complex and unique. ancherrera (161), Cape Coral, Florida, USA Jul 30, 2001 MartinT (5026), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Oct 13, 2005 The Lure: Cloves and grape bubblegum are propulsed from the dry yeastiness. A little too faint of an aroma to be spectacular, but something fun obviously resides within.
The Festivities: Spritzy carbonation plows through the active cloves and sweet, fruity bubblegum esters. The yeast is doing its work splendidly, and there is enough malt to back it up. A flavorful and authentic example of the style.
Transcendence: The nobles are lunching in the garden.
