2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Pale yellow color. Aroma of grains and corn. Taste is full of cereal grains, not very, pleasant. Price point would be the only thing this beer really has going for it.

While visiting Berkshire County, Massachusetts I quickly discovered a local "party store" to find some regional beers. In a sea of fun labels and enticing names, my eyes were drawn to a lonely cooler in the back of the store. Inside, I found a shining six-pack of Genesee. Having never heard of it before, I asked the dude at the counter about it. He said "It’s an old-school beer. Grandpa’s drink it." I looked at the two-bit label and knew that I had to try it. As a fan of regionally macro-brewed American Pale Lagers, I knew I had made a good choice. My first sip, I won’t lie, was a bit hard to swallow. It tasted a little bit like an aluminum can. The second through twelfth sips, however, we delightfully crisp and easy to drink. I probably wouldn’t want to drink a warm Genesee but I am satisfied with my purchase. I look forward to trying the other beers in the Genesee family.

bland light smell...taste is mild and what you would thing for a light lager...nothing shines and nothing good stands out...very average for the beer type...

1.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20
Carbonated, ginger ale body with very tick, airy, tower of foam on top. Light grainy, dank nose, with a touch of corn, uric acid, and skunk cabbage. Body seems flat even though the appearance is pretty carbonated. Smooth body. Six row grains and corny quality come through. Reminiscent, of dank, beer-spilled diver bar floors, but no terrible.

For what it is, how can you complain? Its sweet, somewhere in the range between a Bud and a Labatt. Classic presentation. Good for the river.

24oz can for 99 cents; 4th of July themed because ’Murica. Pours a dark yellow with a force-carbonated head that leaves no lace. Aroma is what I remember beer smelling like as a child. Strong corn and metal notes on the nose and taste. Astringent, metallic finish. Smooth mouthfeel. This is pretty bad compared to the rest of their lineup, but still drinkable if it’s cold enough. I’m sticking to the cream ale from now on.

24 ounce can for $1.59. Pours a pale gold with a nice white head. Mild aroma of grain and malt. Taste is the same. Not much for taste, but it is not offensive.

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
UPDATED: MAY 31, 2013 My hometown lager. We always mocked Genny Cream Ale here, but that seems to be the one with a rep outside the area. Lager is not especially bad for its style, and that ABV looks to be way up to 5%. Certainly best if you don’t let it warm up.

12oz can poured into a shaker. Pours a clear pale gold with a half finger of white head. Aroma of corn and grains with a little metallic apple. Taste is light sweet. Corn and grains with the same metallic apple and a little sugarwater. Light bodied with a thin yet slightly sticky texture. Lively carbonation and a surprisingly long finish. Overall, not bad. Ive had much worse.
