Genesee Bock Beer Special Edition, from Genesee!
Our take on the 16th century German legend has turned out to be a legend in its own right. For every spring since 1951, our brewery has carefully crafted and lagered Genesee Bock Beer. The result is an exceptionally hearty, full-flavored beer with a slight malty finish—and a perfect way to celebrate the snow melt.

Rated Genesee Bock back in June, forgot to enter it on RB until today. I picked up a case of Genny Bock in April for $10.78 @ Bell Beverage in South Philly. Retro can and cheap price appealed to me. Light malt aroma, brown body that I think may have been artificially enhanced. For a cheap macro this Bock did have a bit of a ’twang’ to it. I embraced Genny Bock, and so did a few friends who sampled it as well. Thanks Genesee Brewing for bring a little more taste and variety to the cheap beer market.

Aroma is like old cheeze and cigar smoke, palate is thin and very refreshing. Flavor is a slight roasty malt that goes down very easy. Not bad for a session beer, but i’d rather go with others that are priced the same.

I bought this for $3.99 for a 6 pack, which is probably the cheapest beer I’ve purchased in a long time. With that in mind, this is actually not a bad beer, but if it was any more I would steer clear of this. Pours a very clear amber with a thick head that dissipates. Aroma is of cheap malt, but more robust than a standard lager. Taste s just really thin and metallic. It’s better than the standard lagers you find at this price point, and that’s why the review is better than what it would’ve been if a couple of bucks was added to the price.

12oz can. Pours a clear copper. Nice lacing and a long lasting white head. Weak aroma of lager yeast and some caramel malt. Flavor is quite nice. That lovely crusty bread taste I love so much from a good bock, light caramel finish. slight herbal hoppiness. Slightly overcarbonated though. Palate is a little thin for a bock, especially a dunkler bock. Overall this is a nice little dunkel. Nothing special but it does what it needs to and apparently its cheap, a good session beer.

Aroma is weakish lager malt. A hint of caramel sweetness, but mostly adjunct business. Not offensive, not at all pleasant. Appears honey orange, red or light brown, depending on light. No head retention or lace. Flavor: along with the wheat, lagery malt, there is a hint of sweet caramel and mild butterscotch. Cigarette ashes. Some cooked vegetables. Sweet-ish, with a brown sugary-heavy finish. Smooth and milky feel, with an ashy finish. Exacerbates the cloyingness. Like a lager with caramel extract added. Ashy and too sweet by half. A weak offering.

12 oz can. Pours a deep amber color with an average off white head. Very little in the aroma, maybe some hints of corn and grass. Caramel malt flavor with a light sweetness present from start to finish. Texture is a little watery with average carbonation. Nothing special. Gets a bonus point for cheap price and still tasty straight from the can.
