I rated a little higher because you can sit here and say that this beer doesn’t taste like a good bock. It’s more like Bock Light, but still to have a slight craft taste and not be offensive at 7 bucks a 12 pack! Come on dude, this beer is a definite go to for the craft beer drinker on a budget, or if just going to a party and feeling like throwing some back without having to go toward Keystone or Natural Ice. I recommend this beer for the craft drinker that wants to play beer pong or keg stand 100% Cheers

from notes: a very light bock beer from my local crappy brewery. No hops detected. Malty, biscuit. Bready. Average. Scroll past.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20 Chad9976 (669) - Albany, New York, USA - APR 22, 2012
I poured a 12oz can into a lager glass.
Appearance: Beautiful shade of clear copper, some carbonation visible. Initially forms a large, fluffy, beige soapy head which actual retains and laces quite well.
Smell: Mostly insignificant nose with hints of darker cereal grain and a generic lager scent. Nothing foul, though.
Taste: I can’t think of too many beers I’d honestly give a thumbs up to while being stymied to describe the palate, but Genesee Bock Beer is one such brew. It’s difficult to explain what’s so appealing about it since the palate is mild and simple, yet there’s nothing off-putting about it whatsoever. It’s a little richer and a little more "complete" than your average macro lager. Take a regular lager, subtract the generic grainy component, add a hint of sweetness and that’s what you get here. Subtle notes of caramel are present, maybe even a hint of herbal qualities, although I do detect a slight toasted corn or other adjunct flavor. There’s little bitterness, yet it’s not a beer I would consider watery or bland per se. A little more emphasis on the sweet components would make this a genuinely good beer, but as it stands it’s impressive that it’s above average.
Drinkability: With a crisp, clean palate and relatively light body, Genesee Bock Beer is definitely an easy drinker that’s quite refreshing, too. A noticeably thin, fizzy mouthfeel, but a little more refined than most macro lagers. Goes down smoothly with little carbonation distraction. At 5.2% ABV it’s a candidate for a sessionable beverage, although you might grow bored with it after a few servings. A great beer to have with brats, burgers or any other picnic or ballpark fare.

I dislike Genesee’s other beers, so this one was a bit of a difference. Astringent nose but a light brown root beer colored pour with a perfectly colored beige/light brown head. The head is thick and rich, and it lasted a long time with lots of lacing on my glass. Taste & mouth feel are not as heavy as most bocks. But even though I’d describe it as a "lighter" flavor I would not say it is "watery". An unexpected bitterness arrives in the aftertaste. There is some detection of alcohol which was surprising as it’s ABV content is only 5.2. Overall not too shabby!

12oz green "special edition" can. Clear copper color. Big foamy khaki head. More crisp carbonation. Kinda watered down tasting malt aroma, good lace. Plain, sort of savory taste. Not awful. Just pretty boring. 12oz is 3x more than I care to drink of this.

Clear, dark brown, with a generous light tan head that dissipates gradually. Easy to drink, but not watery. Not as rich and heavy as many bocks. Definitely a good beer compared to others in its price range.

pours clear brown with a foamy white head and some lacing. aroma has a hint of malt with some lagerish sourness and something dank in the background. body is watery. taste is subtle dark malt, graham crackers and ash. finish is dull. A generally unoffensive but rather uninspiring brew.

Pours an expected amber with thin off-white head. Aroma of sweet malt and caramel. Not a whole lot else, but would definitely be a go-to beer for me instead of the many other mass produced beers.

Can. Caramel malt and light astringent alcohol aroma. Dark amber color with small head. Lightly sweet caramel malt flavor with a hint of alcohol astringency. Very light but is actually a reasonable dunkler bock.

Malty and only fair. A bit better than a regular light beer. Light body and a bit too thin for me.
