3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 ElGaucho (1862) - Minnetonka, Minnesota, USA - MAY 10, 2004
UPDATED: APR 6, 2007 4/6/07: Ok, so I lied. I did do it again. Gift from the father-in-law whose boss’ brother-in-law is the High Falls brewmaster. Must be Dave Schlosser. It appears this brew has improved in the last 3 years. Has a malty sweet aroma that promises flavor and some alcohol. Slightly hazy, light gold body with a thin, white head. Has a carbonated spritz to the mouthfeel. Nice flavor with good moderate sweetness. Six points higher this time around, so perhaps Schlosser has tinkered with the recipe. Perhaps time to re-evaluate High Falls Brewing. 5/10/04: Fresh, clear, Euro-lager aroma. Clear, gold body with some visible carbonation and lace. White head. Bold lager flavor although slightly astringent. Some off notes. About what I expected. Not bad, but wont do again. Ar 6, Ap 3, Fl 3, Pal 3, Ov 9

It’s cheap, you get used to it. For the money, who can really Gripe? I think Liebotschaner is better if you can get it but hey, ol’ Genny will do

Orange, pale gold, very carbonated with medium fizzy head. Aroma is stale, slightly malty. Flavor is bland, a little bitter at first, and has a fizzy mouth feel. Could be worse.

not like i remembered, i think the original owners sold the company. poured a light yellow color. The flavor was grainy without much hops. I didn't find it creamy this time, or any other time i have drank it. a good beer for the price.

out of the can. pretty good, if you rate it for what it is. it pours, of course, a bright pale gold with a short lasting head. the aroma is very light, perhaps a bit grainy. the flavor is light and mild with some corn. look, you can drink this stuff all day, especially in the summer. not everything has to be double hopped.

Pretty smooth, with some sweet creamy flavors. I wouldn't buy this, but my grandfather craves it. Sometimes I'll have one with him on the porch.

This is THE BEST EVER!!! I remeber my old friend Ed saying "genny's is the best" of course he said it with a sly grin and had also told me about the "beautiful woman" that wanted to meet me. She turned out to be a seventy year old grouch that cursed like a sailor and this beer is her evil cousin.

This is one of the longest lived American cream ales and it still delivers what it was intended to.....an American innovation on traditional European styles by making it lighter and more drinkable to the American mass market.
I remember this stuff from college days and it seems to have improved in this latest offering...pours a clear light gold with a frothy head that disappears to a lace and ring, effervescent in the glass. Smells of malt and some adjuncts (corn?)
Tasted dry and citrus up front medium light malty body finished dry with a lingering after taste of the adjuncts corn or rice or something.
A refreshing drink served cold but I don't think corn belongs in an ale. This is still one of the better US commercial brewed beers.

It may be a "cream ale", but as you drop quality on any beer style, it always tastes like American Standard in the end. This one is tolerable, has a soft corny sweetness. No hops, and the usual chemical macro flavours.
