UPDATED: FEB 15, 2009 A good chocolatey porter with a malty character and just a bit of peat on the edges. Pours black as a night with a new moon and has a nice frothy brown head. A rather uncomplicated beer, but sometimes this is better than complicated and confused.

From a Growler. Thanks to Somebody for bringing this to the Alesmith Release party line tasting. Dark and roasted malt aromas that melded into dust and burnt malt flavors. Typical porter. Not bad.

Draft at the Tucson airport near B3 food court. A pleasant surprise and the only non-macro I saw. Dark brown with red hues. A smallish tan head soon becomes a ring. The nose is mostly nutty with a hint of cocoa. The flavor also features nuts, pecans maybe, and is nicely hopped. It is more balanced than expected. The hops seem to include Cascade but perhaps at least one other variety. The nut flavors made this a hybrid porter / brown. Regardless, it was nice if not great.

Sampled at Big Pour Mesa, AZ. Decent beer...clear mahogany pour with a thin khaki head. A bit thin...not nearly as creamy as some. Toasted malt, hint of chocolate, and bitter coffee. Not a bad brew.
