Commercial Description:
Its characteristic flavour and bitterness is provided by New Zealand’s finest malt and hops. Batch fermented in the time-honoured tradition, Mates Draught is a real kiwi beer for the real kiwi beer drinker.

(On tap) Clear, amber golden with a small, off-white head. Lightly grainy malt aroma. Fairly light in body with lightly sweet malt and caramel notes. High in carbonation and almost no hops. Your standard bland Kiwi Draught. 020208

The brewer makes heavy play of the fact his Pure Draught has no added sugars, which makes me wonder what’s in this. It’s sweetish but pretty bland. Copper coloured with a fair head. The brewer sure isn’t big on aroma hops - it was a struggle to find much to sniff here. Bit sour, bit uric, very basic. Probable adjuncts. Soft palate. Faint caramalt and adjuncts in an underdone brew. There seems to be a market in New Zealand for watery, lightly-flavoured lagers, and this fits the bill. Metallic tasting with little or no finish. Pretty crap. (Draught at brewpub)

Is bronze in colour with no head. How our palate matures. :)
