Had a giant stein of this celebrating a budies birthday. A malty, caramely beer. Soft fruit flavors from the hopping and yeast.

(bottle) In the cart for Mike’s 50th birthday golf outing. I think the last time I had this brew was sometime in the 90s. A reasonable amber lager intended to session. Traditional sweetness with nice complexion.

2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
DATE TASTED: August 3, 2013 ... GLASSWARE: Samuel Adams Boston Lager... OCCASION: watching Money Ball--and loving it!... APPEARANCE: handsome black and tan split-level body; thin white head that staggers on its reddish-brown base--looks inviting... AROMA: fragrant caramel malts breath a bready blast; sugary suggestions as well... PALATE: medium-to-light bodied with a swift, soft aftertaste--a red in the pattern of the many during its mid-90s deluge that we came of drinking age to at college...TASTE: strongly malted base forms the brunt of this old-time Hess Tavern offering; rather flat, rounded ops that profile as an ESB, though not enough hops surface to make an ale; a bit buttery too--but more in the feel than in the taste; the after drag is slightly warm and rough... OVERALL: a lagered, emasculated ESB that fulfills its March Ides duty but cannot demand much more on a cool summer night such as this...recently I toasted the anniversary of my wife and I by romantically recalling this beer set next to mine (a Honey Brown) on a college bar basement table; out of context, Killians looks nice in that oddly-necked bottle, but now under Coors’ auspices, one can see what is and is not present in this beer...

1.5 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
It has a reddish body with a medium-sized head, but is almost completely devoid of any type of smell other than hops. This beer appears to have potential, but is corrupted by a level of bitterness that is only disrupted by a watery taste that is typical in most Coors products. The after-taste was a combination of these two factors and I could not finish the bottle.
