DATE TASTED: August 3, 2013 ... GLASSWARE: Samuel Adams Boston Lager... OCCASION: watching Money Ball--and loving it!... APPEARANCE: handsome black and tan split-level body; thin white head that staggers on its reddish-brown base--looks inviting... AROMA: fragrant caramel malts breath a bready blast; sugary suggestions as well... PALATE: medium-to-light bodied with a swift, soft aftertaste--a red in the pattern of the many during its mid-90s deluge that we came of drinking age to at college...TASTE: strongly malted base forms the brunt of this old-time Hess Tavern offering; rather flat, rounded ops that profile as an ESB, though not enough hops surface to make an ale; a bit buttery too--but more in the feel than in the taste; the after drag is slightly warm and rough... OVERALL: a lagered, emasculated ESB that fulfills its March Ides duty but cannot demand much more on a cool summer night such as this...recently I toasted the anniversary of my wife and I by romantically recalling this beer set next to mine (a Honey Brown) on a college bar basement table; out of context, Killians looks nice in that oddly-necked bottle, but now under Coors’ auspices, one can see what is and is not present in this beer...

Really bad. Hard to believe at one point this was one of the few alternatives to bud.

Not much odor with this guy. Grewt Great appearance light amber notes of malt on back end, with an acidic palate.

No, it’s not a craft beer. Great taste, strong finish, and great flavor overall. For a domestic, I like the suds and rich carmel flavor it offers.

Pretty good domestic beer. Dark amber color, slightly thin density. Medium carbonation with a light head. Has a semi-sweet caramely taste. A little bit of malts and hops to add bitterness. Better than a lot of the alternatives, but not quite a premium beer.

Bendrixian (1274) - Canadiana, Ontario, CANADA - APR 4, 2015
Clear pour with a light amber colour. Caramel, some noble hops and a bit soapy. Funny cause I first I thought this was more like a lager than ale but the server told me it was an irish red. Definately not a good reprsentation of they Irish red ale but i got it during happy hour for $2. can’t complain.

Bottle. Lively aroma. Beautiful dark red color. Very pleasant, rich mouthfeel. Clean finish. Surprisingly good.

Poured from 12oz bottle into pint glass. Malt aroma of caramel and cereal. Slight touch of grass hops. Appearance is clear amber in color with thin white head. Taste is lightly sweet and lightly bitter. Beer is light bodied with a fairly thin texture. Soft carbonation. Over all ok light tasting beer. Basically a lawn mowing beer. Pretty plain Jane.

This is really not bad if there is absolutely no craft on the menu. There is a nice aroma of caramel, toffee and roasted malt. Taste is pretty much all malts: caramel and toffee standing out. Fairly smooth and inoffensive. Solid for the style.

I really appreciate the heritage behind this brew, but I think Coors’ process for mass production has just made the whole experience bland. Although I prefer this to most domestic lagers, and I really do appreciate the malted flavor this adds, I still find myself wishing for more.
