On tap barrel aged version specialy brewed for AFK tavern elves vs dwarves night. Pours a dark brown color with a medium tan head that leaves good lacing. Smells of chocolate, roasted malt, and oak. Tastes of chocolate, vanilla, oak and roasted malt. Mouthfeel is creamy and chewy with a thick oily texture. This was really good, reminded me of a hershey special dark bar with slight oak flavor. Too bad thisvis only a one time thing. I was glad I was able to try it.

On cask at Washington Brewers Cask Festival, pours black with a small beige head. Nose brings out light cocoa and a little lactose. Flavour is kind of bland for an impie stout, with light cocoa and not much else. Surprisingly muted for the style. Inoffensive but just missing some oomph.

Draft at College Inn to help me focus on writing this damned paper. Clearly it’s working because I am writing something here ... Anyway, picture perfect stout pour: opaque, nearly black with an inch of dense creamy brown head; great lacing. Aroma: chocolate covered cherry licqeur. Roast present, but mostly fruit smothered under layers of chocolate. Taste: somewhat sweet up front, roast bitter finish; slightly astringent; lasting roasty finish. Palate: medium+ body, oily texture that feels a bit thin; soft carbonation. Overall: solid. Would love to try this with the mouthfeel tweaked a bit.

On tap, pours a dark brown/black with almost no head and tiny bit of lacing. Huge Chocolate, coffee, roasted grain nose. Very rich, thick taste, a bit heavy on the chocolate for me. finish is dry and long. good beer.

Sample at the brewery tap room. The beer pours a dark brown-black color with a medium tan head that dissipates slowly. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of malt, chocolate and coffee. Medium-bodied with flavors of roasted coffee, dark chocolate and a touch of hops. The finish is roasty with a slightly bitter chocolate aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

This is rated lower not for the overall quality, but simply for the fact that it advertises itself as a chocolate stout and there is nearly no chocolate character beyond what one finds in any American craft stout. It does show a nice roasted nutty nose, a full body and some dark chocolate and coffee.

Draft at the main street. Pours a chalky faded black with a dense and.creamy tan nitro head. Big ashy bitter chocolate nose, an offbeat.take on a chocolate stout and it works. Crwamy medium body with soft carb. That black patent ashiness is back on the mid palate, along with a dense and.creamy dark chocolate and.cocoa blast that carry right through to the finish.

On tap at buckleys in queen anne. nitro pour. superb. a rich and thick chocolate stout indeed. Sweet buy balanced hoppiness on the finish. none of the cigarette smokiness or chalkiness thats present in a lot of stouts. deep roasty aroma. 8% abv is stealthy.
