3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Growler from Bob’s Liquors (on special for $6.40 -- yeah!). Tried to share this at a party last night, but I guess people just wanted to drink the other bottles hanging out in my fridge, which is cool because it means I’ll have 3 more pints for bowl games tomorrow.
Appearance: pours clear orange with a thin layer of foamy bubbles over the surface, decent lacing.
Aroma: bread dough, toast, biscuit, citrus, honey.
Taste: moderately sweet, lightly bitter finish, with biscuit and honey remaining behind quietly in the aftertaste. Also some apple.
Palate: medium body, crisp, average carbonation.
Overall: I’ve hesitated to rate this one for awhile. It’s one I could have saved for whenever I eventually leave Seattle, because it’s been a mainstay at the College Inn, the first bar I really frequented (actually, the first bar I ever drank at) and still my favorite U-District drinking establishment. For so many of my non-beer friends, this is their go-to beer. Either this or Mac and Jack’s, with a few who favor the Boundary Bay (IPA, though you never have to say IPA -- just say Boundary Bay and the IPA is implied). To me, Mannys basically IS the house beer at the College Inn. There’s always a pint on the table, no matter whose around. Hard to capture that in an (attempted, despite the futility of it) objective beer review. Anyway, this is Mannys. If you’re in Seattle, have a pint. You won’t have a hard time finding it. Pairs well with good friends and a plate of nachos in the basement of the College Inn.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Draught. Pours a clear amber color with a moderate off-white head. Nose is a little hoppy, but like the hops are old. Taste is a little bitter, too, but like things have turned. Not a great beer, but drinkable.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Deep orange. Aroma is floral and slightly pungent. Orange peel up front. Spicy flavor and highly tingly carbonation. Medium body with citrus hop finish. I have heard a lot of praise for this brew and it is overall pretty decent!

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap. Pours a cloudy orange with a thick white head. Aroma of light fruits, apple, pale bready malts. Flavor of bready malt, caramel, perfume, light fruits. A solid light pale ale, not too hoppy at all, lots of fruits/malt.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draught. This is an old school APA which is not too exciting but not too bad either.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
At a restaurant on Orcas Island in the town of Eastsound. The pint came a hazy light gold with a white head. Nose of tropical fruit. Medium in body. Smooth mouth feel. Flavor is mango-like and citrus. Not sure where the fruit comes from but it is great. This is a tasty beer. Easy drinking.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Tap. Pours a slightly hazy copper body with a small frothy off-white head that faded to a thin film. The nose is lightly hoppy with a bit of caramel and crystal malt. The flavor is a bit too heavy on the crystal malt, dulling the hops and leaving a little too much residual sweetness. Lingering light bitterness and a light citrusy note. Light to medium bodied with a bit of clingy sweetness and soft carbonation. Not to my tastes for the style. Keep crystal malt out of my hoppy beers!

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Absolutely gorgeous beer, cloudy amber with medium creamy head, good lacing all around the glass. Aroma of malt and fruit, Taste is slightly sweet malt, bread and more fruit (apples?). Abrupt finish, medium weight body, easy to drink.
