Indeed a hoppier version of Choppers. citrus hops are everywhere. lots of grapefruit aroma and flavor. almost hopped to soapyness. quite sweet. i think a an imperial amber is an apt description.

Draft at jules maes. Pours a cloudy dark brown with a loose white head. Gorgeous big tropical fruity nose. Mango and pineapple. Soft woolly body. Toast, caramel, and orange peel marmalade on the mid palate. Lightness of the body makes absolutely no sense with the turbine powered hop plume on the nose, but theyre both good (great, even), even if they are two different beers in the same glass. Long tangy fruit finish.

Dark amber color with a nice off white head. Aroma is hoppy with some pine notes. Flavor is fairly hoppy, mostly piney notes again. Well balanced with malt presence as well. Finish is fairly bitter hops though, overall it’s well done. I would pick this up if I lived in the area. Growler refills are very well priced.

Taster - Washington Beer Commission Oktoberfest - Seattle, WA
Aroma – Great Hops and Malt aroma with the hops giving you the deep floral aroma.
Appearance – Reddish Amber in color, clear with a light head.
Flavor – A very tasty strong hopped ale with a good malt usage. Big flavors.
Palate – Crisp Mouthfeel, nice texture with a dry finish.
Overall – Sounds like this beer started off as a mistake and has now become a new beer they are looking to brew more of. This was a excellent Red ale with a hop flavor to give.

A couple buddies picked up a growler of this at the brewery recently. They said that it was actually a mistake; that more and different hops were accidentally used creating a hoppier and different tasting Chopper’s Red that could not be sold to accounts. Poured a dark reddish brown with a thin beige head. Aromas of funky herbal and piney hops. Smelt funky if you know what I mean. A little toffee/bready malts are there with a strong hop presence that consisted of pine, cat box, herb, and funk. I liked the weed like hops that came through and lingered on the palate with a good dry resiny coating. Good stuff.
