ALLOVATE (2619) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - SEP 21, 2006
Served this up at room temperature as my house is freezing from this unseasonably cold weather we are having at the moment. Into a chalice glass. Chestnut hued ruby red body, bright, with very little carbonation and a limp, bubbly, wafer-thin pad of tan. Did manage some good lacing though. Dusty, gritty, dark, chocolaty malts in the aroma with an edge of fresh baked bread and savoury fruit like sultanas and raisins. Biscuity sweet in the mouth, licks of caramel and honeycomb, light showing of cocoa, bitter/sweet fruits like plums and cherries, bready yeast and vanilla. Finish holds fruit, a lightly metallic zing with just a trace of more vanilla. Alcohol is sadly inert, I think this one could actually benefit from some alcohol spice. Not much length at all in the swallow but a lot of fruit sugars reside in the mouth for some time. Body is quite light, but it is smooth and creamy, and quite flavoursome enough to hold its ground. Not overly sweet, it does have some aged fruit and dusty malts shining through if you search hard. This wasn’t too bad at all. Nothing spectacular, but it’s plain and simple refreshing as a Dubbel.
