Gerstel Bräu was, when launched in 1977, Germany's first non-alcoholic beer. This long experience in brewing non-alcoholic beer for the discerning drinker can be tasted at every sip.

This is just sort of a wacky looking beer, the color is super pale and the head is absolutely gigantic and leaves a bunch of lace. The aroma is mostly cornflakes, I caught a great big bouquet of herbal hops when I cracked the bottle open, unfortunately this didn’t materialize as well in the glass. The flavor is corn-flake like, but not nearly as bad as the last two beers I rated, There is a fair amount of good herbal hops here. There are enough hops here to make me think Classic German Pils..... Well Almost. The sweetness sure gets in the way of a lot of the crispness and hoppiness of this beer. I’d love to try some sort of "full strength" version of this beer. The mouthfeel is lively and while somewhat thin this doesn’t seem as watery as many NA beers I’ve tried.

Horrible beverage, tastes like cornflakes like so many low-alcohol beers do.

Gerstel 11.2 oz brown bottle. Brewed by Eichbaum.Best by 14. 02. 2011. I have only had BITburger Drive as far as NAs go. It pours a pale gold with carbonation bubble racing to the top and a white head that leaves a bit of lacing. It looks alright at least. THe smell is a bit skunky wiht mostly a syrupy malt note and a slight touch of hops. The taste isn’t bad, it is graham-cracker-y, with a malt forward taste and a slight hop bitterness. Judging by the horror stories surrounding NA beers and the fact that BITburger Drive was atrocious, this might be one of the best NAs out there. It was only a buck, so I guess if for some reason I need it, this is what I would grab. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 05-24-2010 20:01:30

Bottle. Pours a clear and light amber beer with a white head. The aroma is weak with malt, hay and sweetness. The flavor follows the nose. The palate is dry. Overall a bad beer.

Moderately skunked cereal grain aroma. Clear golden, headless. Cardboard and cheerios flavor, equal proportions, and fairly intense. I would normally tank the rating for such a beer and normally don’t rate to style, but considering it is a NA, it isn’t all that bad. The intensity is a welcome change for flavorless near beers. Alas, the flavor isn’t great. I’d rather have Clausthaler Amber.
