Gerstel Bräu was, when launched in 1977, Germany's first non-alcoholic beer. This long experience in brewing non-alcoholic beer for the discerning drinker can be tasted at every sip.

From 12oz bottle, poured into shaker pint glass. About $2 for single at Trader Joe’s

Aroma: no malt, some green apple-like aroma

Appearance: Very pale yellow, crystal clear, white head with minimal retention

Taste: Sweet malt, slight DMS (maybe), none to low hop bitterness, clean lager, crisp dry finish

Palate: low body, near watery, slight carbonic bite

Overall: Very pale, very watery, very clean lager, with slightly sweet taste and carbonic bit finish. Kind of a non-alcoholic version of Bud Light.

500ml can - thanks Marduk
Sweet, malty aroma, and the taste is the same. Weetabixy. Taste sweeter than aroma, almost cornflakey. Anna gets a touch of paperiness in the finish. A few faint hops in there. Actually adequate. I finished the can with few objections.

(Rating #6226)

Golden Yellow, Small White Head Diminishes to Thin Layer Than Lasts Through Out, Decent Thin Lacing. Grain, Corn, Skunk, Cooked Vegetables Aroma. Grain, Corn, Cooked Vegetables, Skunk, Honey Sweetness, Light Bitter Finish. Over Carbonated, Watery. Lasting Bitter and Honey Sweetness Aftertaste. Drinkable If Need To Be, Not The Worst But Not That Enjoyable Either. Just OK. Pass It...

Nice frothy white head, about one finger, which slowly goes down. Orangy golden body. Very malty aroma. Clean malt flavor. No detectible hop character. Watery mouth feel. Clean aftertaste. Not the best alcohol free beer. But, certainly not the worst either.

This is sort of worty and unfermented tasting NA beer. It is not altogether bad though. In the glass, it is gold in color with a long lasting head and lots of lace. It smells of malt syrup and is faintly skunky even though it’s in a brown bottle. It is a bit sweet and slightly heavy but not too bad, though there is a slight metallic note in the finish. It’s not the worse beer of its kind but nothing plan to drink again.
