2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 mcdav2154 (394) - - NOV 25, 2011
Not what I expected for a doppel bock. Clear golden color with no head. Smell what more like a pils but with sweeter tones. Taste was unimpressive. I love Doppel Bocks but this one won’t be on my menu again.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 EithCubes (3340) - GERMANY - FEB 17, 2012
Swing-top by 21.07.12. Somewhat novel idea for this age. Nose is semi-sweet and exactly like that of a Heller Bock, only with a deft little touch of Cheerios. Brilliant golden body with a large and creamy white head. Taste is sweet with white grape and floral notes, heavy hay and touches of chalk and yeast but otherwise very clean. Lively full body with a heavy hand of alcohol, but it doesn’t distract. Well, there were two interpretations to the name here, and it’s clear that only one could win: this is an ’imperialized’ Heller Bock, and a good one at that.
