Earthy caramel color with no head. Aroma of smoke, wood, and grain. Smoke flavor upfront with some caramel, grain, and smoke. Strangely, smoke flavor disappears when beer warms.

Draft at the brewpub. Dark earthy body and moderate cream head. Smells woody, cereal, malt and a touch smokey. Good rye, a sweet caramel malty character and a nice smokey finish. Kind of dry actually, in a nice way. A safe session beer.

Draft at the brewpub.Hazy amber with a thin white head. Mild rye, sweet malt and a wisp of smoke. Lightly sweet flavor, malty and lightly smoked. Rauch lite? Interesting at least.

Draught at the brewpub. Cloudy dark amber body with thin head. Aroma is of light wood, oak, some spices and something else I couldn’t put a finger on. Flavor was very sweet, light woodiness to it and small amount of smoke. Off balanced flavors.

whaleman (2176) - North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 7, 2007
UPDATED: JUL 8, 2007 Hazy amber body with a persistent velvety cream head. Aroma of wood smoke, spicy rye, sweet meat marinade, and prominent butterscotch. Flavor is drier than expected with notes of tea, apple, smoke, and rye. At this point I was told that "NO NOTES" were allowed...

I’ll finish my rating when I’m allowed to take notes here again...
