Bottle from a kiosk in Cologne. Pours a deeper golden colour with a white head. Aroma of malt, sweet corn and caramel. Medium sweetness and moderate bitterness. Medium body with a slick texture and moderate carbonation. Finish has a sticky sweetness with underlying bitterness. Enjoyed this one.

(Kölner Backlog, cf. Domfotos 2013). Takes the Kölsch style to macro pilsner lows: metallic grains meet hop extract, fruitiness of the yeast strains feels like a rough brewing error...dryish, watery, metallic lemonade with a mildly herbal tang.

Kein gutes, aber auch kein schlechtes Kölsch. Typische Kölsch-Noten sowohl in der Nase als auch im Geschmack. Leichte Fruchtnoten, sehr spritzig, sehr erfrischend. Genüsslich Gieslern

Douberd (4636) - Arnhem, NETHERLANDS - NOV 22, 2014
(Giesler Kölsch) Bottle 500 ml at home, served into a kolsch glass, ABV 4.8% Deep golden yellow colour on the body, smalla nd thin white head, soapy, with good retention though, leaving medium lacing on the glass. Somewhat sweet aroma, malts, straw, nothing exciting. Taste of stale bread, some straw, mildly bitter aftertaste, more on the sweet side though. Medium thin body with average carbonation. Okay, I guess.

500 ml bottle. Pours a clear golden colour with a large foamy head. Aroma of grainy malts, strong herbal notes and grass. Flavour of strong herbal hops, mild metallic notes, grains and some mild cardboard notes. Light bodied and lively carbonation. Thin mouthfeel. Sharp, grainy and slightly bitter finish. Mild and thin for a kölsch, but I suppose this isn’t that fresh anymore.

Alengrin (4340) - BELGIUM - AUG 15, 2014
Lesser known Kölsch but made by the brewery that also produces the famed Dom Kölsch. Pretty stable, yellowish white, sticky head, bright golden blonde colour. Soft pale malts and flowery hops in the nose, lemony touch, green apple, cheese, white pepper. Pure malt taste but only very lightly sweet, lots of minerals, assertive hop bitterness coming up more quickly than expected (certainly for this particular style), dry, long and peppery.
