Drank from a bottle at the 20th Mondial de la Bière, June 1, 2013. Black, small head. Hoppy aroma coffee, ripe fruit notes. Hoppy coffee taste, a little dry with hints of raisin, bitter coffee. I never shop on Black Friday, it’s mostly because I’m Canadian, but if I had the choice to shop on it or to drink it, I’ll take the beer.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Sammy (7115) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 3, 2013
Mondiale 2013. Nicely crafted black beer, not a black IPA as not too hoppy. Mostly focuses on the roast. Very lacy black bodied, chocolate malt, a little like a stout. Nicely drinkable and refreshing.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Gooney (378) - Portland, Oregon, USA - MAY 31, 2013
22 oz bottle - Pours black with a large tan, bubbly head. Aromas of roasted malt. Smooth and creamy texture with a little sticky bitterness that lingers on the tongue. I can’t say that this distinguishes itself from other beers in the style, but it’s a good one.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 neepsntatties (908) - Portland, Oregon, USA - MAY 14, 2013
Bottle. Colour...almost black with a bit of garnet at the edges and a tan head. Nose...eminently roasty and hoppy with a lean towards roasted hazelnuts. Palate...sharp and somewhat tangy to start with a dry day old coffee flavour that bounces up against the hops and ultimately blends well with flavours of freshly roasted coffee and dried chicory root. The roastiness is ever present and the finish is sharp and resilient. Noice (to quote the doc)!
3.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Alphadelic (1638) - Portland, Oregon, USA - APR 18, 2013
Whatever the malt bill is they got this right. Thick, smokey, robust and roasted. Plenty of bitterness too. My bottle was a little skunked on the nose but in the mouth this was a dream.
