COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewers in the midlands of England would boil their barley wines ales for longer times to intensify their flavors. In making Massive! we used only British Halcyon pale malt and boiled for eight hours, giving the beer a deep ruby color and rich malt flavor. Heavily hopped, Massive! is a beer that can be enjoyed now for its intensity, or after years and years and years of aging.

Bottle shared by Ace. Poured a deep reddish-amber amber with a foamy light beige head. Aroma/flavor is just way to sweet, caramel, raisin, dough, loads of sugar, fermenting sugars....just so cloying. Blah....

Some kind of aroma jumped out when i popped the cap—milk chocolate, malt vinegar, saw dust. Makes my mouth happy, a creamy texture. Flavor leans to the sweet—more chocolate, resiny underpinning, cherry, alcohol. Pretty reddish brown with thin off white head. Powerful stuff, break out the snifters. Another well-crafted beast from the Gigantic folks.

CBC 2016 Blue session. Unclear dark red body with a medium offwhite head. Aroma is nutty with dark fruits, caramel, burned. Taste is sweet and chunky with brown malts, toffee, plum, chocolate, vineous finish. Warm with a mild alcoholic note. Robust and nice.

Keg at Andrew Usher’s. Clear ruby body with a thin off-white head. No visible carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of shoe polish and overripe plum. Flavour of mashed strawberries, caramel and raspberry syrup. Full body with a chewy, sticky mouthfeel. Soft fizz. Drinks easily for the strength but the aroma is weird.

Tap. Magic Rock Tap. Clear, ruby tinged, amber. Ring, and a film, of off white head. Nose has sweet, honeyed, stewed fruit hop. Rich, sweet, lightly spicy malts. Notes of dried vine fruits. Some stone fruit. Taste is sweet, rich, and vinous. Full bodied, chewy mouthfeel. Long, chewy sweet, vinous finish. Very nice, dangerously drinkable, not overly complex, barley wine.

Sample at CBC 2016. Sweet fruity smell with toasted sugar. Similar taste, sweet and malty. Tasty but also a bit boozy.
