Bottle - pours out pitch black with tan head. Nose of hot chocolate, coffee, and malt. Smooth and thick mouthfeel. Taste of chocolate, sweet malt, cherry, and slight hint of smokiness. Easy drinking though it does have somewhat of a boozy finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From bottle. Black with dark tan head. Aroma is dark chocolate and dark malts, with hint of hops. Taste is sweet dark chocolate milk and some very subtle farmhouse fruit notes. Chocolate flavor lingers, with a smooth finish.

Almost opaque dark brown beer, small pale tan head. Palate is smooth with fine carbonation. Very light spice. Slight dark malt vibe. Little toffee - treacle and bruised fruit. Fairly dry finish. Tasty but not seducing me.

Dark brown pour with a tan head. The aroma has some chocolate, toasted malt and nut notes. The flavor is similar. I get a lot of very dry chocolate as well as some nuttyness. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Bottle at home, thanks to JF, 29/03/14. Light black with a good sized tan covering. Nose is tarte fruit rind, charred wood, dank notes, tobacco, light spice. Taste comprises caramel, brown sugar, light cocoa, tangy woody licks. light plummy notes and dark fruit.. Medium bodied, fine carbonation. Nice beer but more a sweet stout or stout, not feeling the saison, dark or otherwise!

22oz bottle in a tulip. Pours near black with a lacy, beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, some light coffee, hints of light fruit/spices, a little pale malts, and some light bitterness. Flavor the same with a nice blend of all of the elements even though it doesn’t seem like it would all go together. Average texture. Not a bad beer at all.

In short: A roasted Belgian dark ale with a good attenuation. Good beer.
How: Bottle 22oz, consumed a few months after receiving it from mcberko, thanks Matt.
The look: Black body topped by a medium beige head.
In long: Nose is earthy, burnt cake, phenols presence, cloves-ish spiciness, light minty notes. In mouth the first thing that stroke me was the mouthfeel, light but very lively Belgian style mouthfeel, melting like cotton candy in your mouth. Taste of fluffy chocolaty cake, roast, light prunes notes, burnt nuts, mild leafy hops presence. Currently classified as a Saison on ratebeer, not too sure about the style, although the beer probably does have a good attenuation compare to ‘normal’ Belgian dark ales. A beer that is probably not named after Bloomington, Illinois.
