Bottle:   Now that is black... I was totally not expecting that.   Large frothy light beige head, fairly nice lacing.   Noir Saison I guess.   Roasty nose, a little barnish and pasture like.   Has a faint underlying floral, or earthy shrubby floral presense.   Despite the pasture, its not bad.   A bit brighter on the tongue, muted floralness and spices, remains a bit barnish and musty.   Wasnt expecting this at all, but turns out its fairly decent.   Probably one of the better Black Saisons I have had.   The pasture on the nose doesn’t translate, thankfully.   Comes across as airy and sweet, with a bit of roasty floralness.   This is one of those moments where I expect something completey different, yet get shocked in a good way.

Pint on tap at Portland Craft on Main Street in Vancouver during VCBW 2012. Pours black in color with a finger of tan head that leaves very little lacing. Aroma is dark fruits and light hops. Taste is quite sweet with fruits and malts with a light amount of hops and a slightly sour finish. Medium bodied with light carbonation. A nicely done twist on the style and quite tasty and recommended.

On tap at Bottleworks. Pours dark red with a finger tan head. Smell roast and straw. Taste sweet malt, pepper, barnyard, roast, bitter finish with some red fruit. Cool, and fun to try.

Cool black body with a well-suited chocolate plume top. Nose of smooth roast, muted herbal hops, and a subdued Brett character. Luscious body, smoothly roasted chocolate blends well with some farmhouse character endowing this with a delightful complexity. I wonder how well this one might bottle age. Beckons rememberances of Fantome, though on draft, this one does not reach that level of complexity, but shows promise.

Bottle from Whole Foods.
Dark pour, abundant head. Mostly cocoa, not so much saison. Drinkable enough, but too sweet with too much Nestle Quick. I quite appreciate the experiment; not so much the outcome. But I’ll be continuing to follow Gigantic Brewing. The first two I’ve tried from there have been nothing if not interesting.

Tap... Poured an ashy, cloudy, near black with an eggy, off-white head. Nice lacing and retention. This was amazingly quaffable and easy drinking. Really nice. The higher ABV was well masked and nice fermented esters and yeast spices. A hint of toasted grains. Belgian candied sugars, dark fruits and malt sweetness too.

On tap at Bottleworks, pours black with a small light brown head. Aroma of yeast, chocolate malt, light herbal notes and candied sugar. Flavour is quite sweet for a black saison, with bittersweet chocolate, candied sugar and loads of yeast. Very highly carbonated and becomes very sweet the more I drink. Decent.
