Aroma of cocoa, black licorice, dark fruits. Flavours of dark chocolate, dark fruits - quite roasted. The finish is some spice and licorice. Nicely rounded with good flavours.

Draft at The Pine Box, Seattle. Another of this odd new dark saison style. Black-brown, light brown head. Sweet yeasty nose, interesting. Light fruity body before bigger malt, chocolate and coffee finish. interesting mashup, pretty tasty and interesting.

(22oz bottle) Purchased at Cook Street. Pouts a mild tan head atop a black body. Nose is covered with coffee notes, medicinal and slight fig. Don't know about the 'Saison' description as this is über flavorful and covers the yeast. Good malt base but lacks depth. I still prefer my local Lighthouse Belgian Black to this.

650 ml bottle. Pours a very dark brown with light tan head that dissipates quickly. Aroma of dry dark chocolate and malts. Similar stronger flavor with sweet sharp fruity notes. Very dry finish. Very nice.

Draught. Dark brown/black with foamy white head. Spicy aroma. Malt roast in the spicy flavour. This is a dark saison, and probably should be a new type of bier. Spice finish with a bit of roast.

Bottle:   Now that is black... I was totally not expecting that.   Large frothy light beige head, fairly nice lacing.   Noir Saison I guess.   Roasty nose, a little barnish and pasture like.   Has a faint underlying floral, or earthy shrubby floral presense.   Despite the pasture, its not bad.   A bit brighter on the tongue, muted floralness and spices, remains a bit barnish and musty.   Wasnt expecting this at all, but turns out its fairly decent.   Probably one of the better Black Saisons I have had.   The pasture on the nose doesn’t translate, thankfully.   Comes across as airy and sweet, with a bit of roasty floralness.   This is one of those moments where I expect something completey different, yet get shocked in a good way.

Pint on tap at Portland Craft on Main Street in Vancouver during VCBW 2012. Pours black in color with a finger of tan head that leaves very little lacing. Aroma is dark fruits and light hops. Taste is quite sweet with fruits and malts with a light amount of hops and a slightly sour finish. Medium bodied with light carbonation. A nicely done twist on the style and quite tasty and recommended.

On tap at Bottleworks. Pours dark red with a finger tan head. Smell roast and straw. Taste sweet malt, pepper, barnyard, roast, bitter finish with some red fruit. Cool, and fun to try.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Cool black body with a well-suited chocolate plume top. Nose of smooth roast, muted herbal hops, and a subdued Brett character. Luscious body, smoothly roasted chocolate blends well with some farmhouse character endowing this with a delightful complexity. I wonder how well this one might bottle age. Beckons rememberances of Fantome, though on draft, this one does not reach that level of complexity, but shows promise.
