Love the Seibold art on the label. Wary of dark saisons as I am of CDA’s. But this really works. Cereal and toast notes in the aroma followed by a lovely light saison taste that is then followed by a roast coffee note. Lovely profession of flavors.

Bottle... Murky dark-brown ale with a small, creamy, khaki head. Decent retention. The nose is nutty and chocolaty - walnuts stand out. Full-bodied and velvety with soft carbonation. Much like the aroma, the flavor is bittersweet, chocolaty and nutty. Finishes minerally and lightly sweet. Kudos to newcigarz for popping the top on this bottle!

Pours a pitch black with a thick dark-brown head with decent retention. Black licorice aroma, prunes, pepper, light metallic note. Brown sugar and molasses. Fisherman’s friend? More prunes, raisins, what have you, light sourness, hint of alcohol, grapefruity hops. Thin but reasonably creamy body. ABV creeps up on you... very drinkable. Almost like a baltic porter rather than a black saison.

22oz bottle. Dark reddish brown with a thick, tan head. Aroma of cocoa, spicy peppercorn, toast and caramel. Flavor is bitter roasty malt, spice and some sweet caramel. Medium to full body with active carbonation. This is a great Belgian style stout, it has a lot going on but all the flavors come together excellently.

Bomber from Malt & Vine. Pours very dark brown with a foamy/creamy dark tan head. Aroma of earthy chocolate. Med body more or less. Flavor is earthy chocolate. A chocolate saison? It sort of fits. It’s dry, dark, tasty. Definitely close to the edge.

Bottle. Looks like a stout; black beer with a brown head. Chocolate malt aroma with some backing spice peaking out from the dark curtain. Flavour is indeed dark with a soapy plastic quality. Spice does seem to dance on the dark malt which redeems an odd experiment.

Dark cola black with a large beige head that leaves lots of lacing. Aroma is malt, molasses, cocoa, hint of citrus, and grass. Creamy mouthfeel, medium bodied, slightly grassy finish with a very subtle bitterness.  Taste is molasses, chocolate pudding, hint of pepper and spice. Interesting.

UPDATED: NOV 6, 2012 Tap @ Parkway, bomber from Pint Defiance. Black pour with a short beige head leaving heavy lace. Nose is malty, smoky and roasty. Medium body with light carbonation. Toffee, charcoal, chocolate, ham, salty licorice and a trace of barnyard funk underneath it all, but not enough to make it a saison. Finish is dry and charcoal-ish, with some soy (?oxidation). Very different, as their beers can be IME, but still enjoyable if not quite to style.
