Dark amber in color, hazy with a thin head. Super Belgian flavor and aroma. Very tasty yeast and great malt and hops balance. Nice strong ale.

Brown. A lightly caramelly quad characterized by its robust, deep earthy hop notes which compliment the maltiness. Good, not delicate, moderately complex. On the verge of chewy.

Pours dark brown, beige head. Nose is brown sugar, yeast, slight dark fruit, caramel. Flavour is dark fruit, caramel, molasses. Finish is um Belgian. Feels simple compared to other Belgian Strong Dark Ales, I think it’s because of the lack of spiciness? Very good, though.

Bottle @ Mondial - bark roily brown with a modest cap, low carbonation....big waft of fruits in the aroma, ome funk and sweetness, fusel alcohol. Medium body, rich oily mouth feel. Flavour is primarily cocoa and fruits - dark fruits, stone fruit, some resinous hopping shows later, big malt layering....finishes a bit dry and bitter. A tad too sweet for me.

A hazed dark brown ale with a thin mocha head. In aroma, dark fruits with light molasses, smooth vanilla, nice. In mouth, sweet fruity malt with light caramel malt, dark fruits, a bit too sweet.

Bottle. I actually had a bottle of this long before it hit my local (Portland) market. I had it when I was in Anchorage for the GABBF in January. Colour...dark but not black with little head. Nose...burnt fruit compote with a lean towards cherry and peach. There also some burnt sugar in there as well. Palate...mildly frothy with a vinous aspect to start and then a yeasty/fruity thing that reminds me of an orchard fruit cobbler melange. All in all I rather enjoyed this ale but it didn’t seem like 8%.

On tap and snifter served at Lunar Brewing Co. showing decent clarity to the ruby highlighted, dark mahogany color, with modest, light tan foam that reduced quickly to a ring & film, but left some etched-like, ribbony lacing on the glass. The aroma was yeast, maltiness, brown sugar sweetness, dark fruit, a light scent of alcohol, with a slight touch of soapiness. Medium bodied at best, with soft carbonation, the flavor presented a medium but very dry hop bitterness that was rind-like and unusually astringent. Alcohol became more obvious, along with notes of plum, raisins, and berries. The dryness continued in the finish. Interesting,.. and leave it at that!

Bottle shared by haggerty. Pours dark brown with a modest tan head and a treacle aroma. There is a dark molasses flavor with a noticeable Belgian yeast presence. What a strange combination. Very dry finish.
