Bottle with Carla from Taproom. Pours mahogany brown with minimal tan foam. Smells of raisin, candi sugar and graham cracker with a hint of alcohol. Tastes sweet with hints of raisin/prune and ends with somewhat bitter date flavor melding with alcohol.

(22oz bottle) Purchased from Hillside Liquors. Surprised that this is a Belgian Strong as is has many barley wine properties. Very fig and deep malt flavour. Is there any Belgian yeast in here? Very tasty. Good roasted malt, leafy green fig, young iodine inflicted malts, minor coffee. Good.

Gerbeer (1489) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 4, 2013
650 ml bottle. Pours a very dark mahogany with light head. Aromas of brown sugar candy, roasted malts, and ripe plums/raisins. Flavors of plum skins, resin, burnt sugar, and roasted malts. Light bitter, dusty finish with a hint of spice. Petite quad? Maybe.Good enough to have with apple pie. But missing the body and depth of a real quad as a stand alone sipper.

On tap at St Augustine’s on The Drive in Vancouver. Very dark, not quite black. Not much nose available as it’s a paddle sampler. Lots of roasted malts with a bit of hops. Tastes simple to me.

Brown pour, average head, and a mild aroma of malt, ripe fruit and a little Belgian ale yeast. Wish there were more aroma since what there is is pretty nice. Flavor is malty but not overly sweet, with hints of roasted malt, and ripe fruit including banana. The Belgian yeast is clearly in there and I think it works pretty well in this. Palate is ok, but not sure it matches what I would hope for with a beer like this. Finishes mildly bitter with the malt and Belgian spice notes hanging in there nicely. Seems slightly over-priced, but it’s tasty and worth revisiting. Unique.

Bomber. Lots of sugar, dark fruit, good coffee, and some fumes in the nose. Drak ruby brown, with a creamy tan head. Mild coffee and dark malt initial / funky notes behind increasing coffee and some herbs finished smooth, watm, and leaves a bit of spice. Medium-thick body. Pretty goo. Doesn’t go very far in any one direction.

22. Pours a murky dark brown with a dense and creamy tan head that falls away quickly to a loose film. Big nose of sweet raisins, caramel, and molasses. Creamy medium with soft carb. All the sweetness is back for the mid-palate: raisins, molasses, caramel. Long sweet finish. Not bad. A little on the sweet and simple side, but no obvious flaws in a relatively ambitious beer.
