A freakin’ hop bomb. Bright, multilayered citrus hop aromas and flavors blow up your face, with just the right amount of hop bitterness to back it all up.

Bottle:   Orange hued golden, pale haze, thin to moderate off-white head, nice lacing.   Musty hop aroma.   Faint alcohol, slight tropical fruit, candied citrus peel, and pith.   Aroma has all the aspects that I like, but its not too bright or seemingly that sweet.   Musty hop bitterness on the tongue.   Similar to the aroma, faint alcohol and tropical fruit, along with pith and citrus peel (not so candied at this point).   Body and mouthfeel are moderate to full.   Finishes musty, citrusy, but without as much sweetness to balance it out.   If you like hopsided IIPAs, this is for you.   If you want something balanced with malt sweetness, look elsewhere.   As is, decent.

Sample from firkin at the 6th Annual Rogue Firkin Fest at Green Dragon. The beer pours a clear amber color with a medium white head that diminishes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of hops, citrus and roast malt. Medium body with a moderately bitter citrusy hops character and notes of malt and pine. The finish is hoppy with a fruity aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

22oz bottle from Belmont Station. A: Good semi-translucent copper with a thin ring of white head. Good legs, and it looks pretty calm sitting here in front of me. N: Lots of wholesome, healthy hops. Pineapple, pine, mango, and earth. Biscuit and rising dough. Grapefruit is rounding this one out. It’s very well balanced and it’s a very pleasing scent. T: A sweeter, tropical hop bomb, which is just the way I prefer it. There’s a roundness of the sugars mixed with a touch of bitterness from the hops. Can spike parts of the mouth with the hop sting. M: Heavier body with some noticeable alcohol. Has an appropriate level of carbonation in that the bubbles are lively, but they’re not pop-rocks all over my mouth. O: This is an excellent representation of the style if you’re looking for something which hits all around the bases instead of focusing on one single aspect of a DIPA. These are my favorite types of the style.

Pours clear gold with a tall, long lasting, sticky white head. Hoppy aroma of citrus and pine resin. The flavor carries lots of juicy malt sweetness with a good supporting hop bitterness. Some dryness comes in for the finish to cut any remaining sweetness.

These dudes at Gigantic really know how to brew some kickass beers. This has a big citrus hop aroma. Smooth and creamy texture. Flavor is monster citrus hops with a heavy malt balance. A little alcohol on the back end. Damnnice.

On firkin at Lardo east in Portland. Colour...medium gold with no head. Nose...boiled sweets (esp tropical fruits), hop resin, ponderosa pitch and needles. Palate...light on the CO2 (firkin), then a shot of pineapple infused sugar sirop, followed by peach and pear compote, dried papaya and mango, a lovely tanginess on the soft palate and a lengthy finish of floral hop essence. Gotta get some bottles of this one!

On cask at Lardo East. Orange brown hue. Caramel, citrus hop aroma. Really sweet hop bitterness, like caramelized citrus. Quite easy-drinking and balanced for an Imperial.
