Wasn’t on the menu anymore, but they had it. Odd color for a barley wine as well. This hop-happy Barley Wine lathers the tongue with leafy and earthy hop flavors which lead to a sharp and slightly astringent finishing bitterness. The thin body points towards an Imperial Pale Ale, or something of the sort, but its unidirectionality and lack of malt depth remain its downfall for me.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam protects the cloudy pale orange hues.
-Wet leaves and citrus fruit tickle the nose.
-The prickly carbonation is too strong for the feeble maltiness.
-Tasted blind, one could think this were a monstrously hopped APA.
-Alcohol was shy, but present.
-Their Imperial IPA was so much better that day.
