COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The first known recorded beer was brewed roughly three thousand years before the founding of New Paltz. The town may have changed, but this fine lager never will. This beer is brewed for those ready to plunge into a fuller flavor style of craft beer. The crimson color is from caramel malt, which imparts a sweet malt flavor that balances the domestic and imported hops.

On draught at the brewpub. Arrived a clear deep amber with a thin tan head that faded to a film by the second sip and left light lace. Pleasant aroma of malt and not much else. The flavor is malt along with dried grass. Dries out fairly quickly on the palate with the dryness lingering for about thrity seconds. Kind of an oddball lager.

Draft at the brewpub. Malty aroma. Amber colour and later leaving lace, malty aroma. Drinkable and about right for the style.Carbonation suitable. Now this is a transition beer.

red organge pour. crispy corny notes. sweet caramel malts with a touch of lager yeast notes and adjunct. Nice hoppy kick with some piney earthy notes. good balance on this one.

on tap–pours a white head and reddish amber color. Aroma is sweet grain, herbal/musty. Taste is sweet grain-hint of chocolate, herbal/spice hops.

Sampled @ Otter: Eh. The color is enticing but there’s not much else going on here. A solid copper colored pour with a ring of head remaining. No aroma to speak of, thankfully the initial taste was better. Hops and sugars were noticable, but again not much going on here. It’s clear from the disparity of ratings Otter may still be fine tuning their approach on this one.

Light and drinkable. Not too much flavor but it is crisp and no off flavors detectable. Thats what it comes down to when rating GO’s beers.

Pours out a nice deep red and has a good hoppy aroma, but I think this particular batch got the malt burned instead of caramelized, there was a very strong burn flavor to it which knocks it down.

Pours a coppery brown. Aroma is rather laid back and hard to detect much of anything going on. Malty and light bodied leads into a strong bitter finish.

Sample at the brewpub: Deep copper pour with an off white ring of head. Has a very mild aroma. A touch of grainy caramel malts and brewing cereal. Thin body with a light flavor. Sweet/lightly caramelized grain notes with residual toasted hints. One dimensional.
