Sample at the brewpub: Slightly hazy deep orange, topped by a thin white head. Mild, perfumy aroma with some tangerine citrus notes. Light bodied with an odd grainy flavor in the forefront. Papery and cheap malts notes come through, plasticy phenols, or something as well. Then the bittering hops peak their heads through, "saving" the flavor a bit. Mildly resiny, yet it remains one-dimensional. I happened to enjoy the sample of the Rail Trail Pale Ale a bit more upon my visit there.

with dinner tonight pours hazy orange amber with small head. A bit of citrus in the nose, light caramel joins. Bitterness is at a nice level but not a whole lot of hop flavor to back, just enough citrus to know finishing hops were added. Good full malt body. ok

On tap at the brew pub. Not the best ipa I’ve had but great on this hot day. Hoppy, but could be smoother.

pretty solid IPA. Growler from the brewery. These guys brew a solid beer, nice place to visit, beer travels well in the growlers. IPA has decent hops and citrusy aroma, go for it

A - Pours a nice cloudy copper--amber color with a nice finger of foamy white head. The head had okay retention and left behind some nice lacing. S - Nice piney hop aroma mixed with some nice carmel malt flavor blended in. Touch of citrus in the aroma. T - Starts of nice and bitter with hop flavor. This gets blended with the sweetness of the carmel malt flavor. A little bit of floral and citrus (orange) flavor mixed in. The aftertaste is nice and mellow bitterness. M - Light to medium bodied with low carbonation. Fairly smooth and a nice creamy feeling. Nice dry aftertaste. D - Very drinkable. The flavors are fairly well balanced throughout the beer. The beer is nice and crisp and the mouthfeel is really balanced.

A deep, cloudy pumpkin hue. Slightly sour, very bitter and dry and hoppy. Not sweet enough to carry off the bitterness.

In short: A basic not-so-tasty IPA with a woody bitterness. Just ok
How: Tap at brewpub
The look: Cloudy dark orange body topped by a small off-white head
In long: Nose of leafy hops and a touch pine-tree. The not-so-aromatic nose has both a British and American character. Taste is toasted grainy and woody malts, caramel, orange juice, wood juice, dry orange peels, pine-tree, tree sap. I’m listing many things but overall the beer wasn’t very tasty. The finish is a woody bitterness and orange notes. Drinkable but nothing special. With all that has happened with hoppy beers in the USA in the past 5 years, drinking this beer was like playing Playstation 1.

Draft at the brewpub. The brewer is competent and this is a competent American IPA. Orange body with thick lace. A good bitterness, but a real hophead delivery is amalted away. All the malts lead to an above average mouthfeel, and it starts out in fact sweet and finishes bitter from the buildup of hop oils in the pint. So not that smooth or balanced but relatively tasty.

On draught at the Gilded Otter. Pours a hazy coppery gold with a thin-moderate linen white head that faded to a ring by the first quarter of the glass and left a layer of foam with each sip. Pleasant grapefruit aroma along with some mild malt. The flavor is malt with some moderate grapefruit pith hops bitterness at the finish. Medium bodied. This is a nice solid IPA that is not overdone.

balance is really off on this one. nice caramel malts, but finishes with plenty of astringency. Hops are just overdone.
