On Tap in Köln. Goldgelbes Bier mit kleiner Schaumkrone. Malziger Duft; wird im Geschmack bestätigt, außerdem schmeckt etwas Grasig; erfrischend!

Tap @ Gildenhaus, Koln. Pale golden amber, big foamy head. Spicy corn vegetable aroma. Corn vanilla aroma. A bit watery with unpleasant aftertaste. Not a great Kolsch.

Draft. Soft malt nose. Medium sized bubbles in a large white head. Moderate hop bitterness. Moderate peppery hop flavor with a drying finish, but still some malt sweetness. No significant esters. Really a dry and bitter cream ale.

Tap at Gilden im zims, 26/8/13. Clear light yellow, fleeting white head. Neutral aroma light pils grain. Flavour is clean pils, light grassy hop. Average palate, thin and watery. Mid carb.

20cl from keg at gilden im zims. Thin white head. Clear golden pour. A little hoppier than the other kolsch’s I tried.

50cl bottle pick up while visiting Bierzwerg bottle shop where the label also states “#31 Hohenhaus” interestingly enough. It pours into a tall 15cl sort of “bigger” Kolsch glass with a crystal clear pale gold body that supports a decent nearly bright white head. The aroma offers up sweet soft malts and then very light notes of grainy malts, floral hops and vague faint citrus and pineapple like hops. The taste quickly seems not nearly crisp and snappy enough for the style as it is initially weighed down by a bit too much sweet maltiness.

This is a good example of a Kölescher Bier! It has all of the characteristics: silky light body, light toasted malt flavor, altogether mellow and satisfying. Not the best Kölsch, but definitely a great representative of the style. I wish this were the popular session style at more bars. Thanks Lajos!
