A Heavy Scotch Ale with a pleasantly dark, warm, and malty body. An additional smattering of hops added during fermentation leaves a complementing floral aroma.

Taster at Gilgamesh The Campus. Dark copper color. Dark malty aroma. Taste is really intriguing, with subtle nutty roasted notes, sweet dark caramel, and a tinge of fruitiness. Finished really smooth for the alcohol content.

Sample at the Salem brewpub. This beer pours a hazy brownish-amber color with a medium off-white head that recedes gradually to a dense film. Small patches of lacing. Aroma of roast malt, ripe fruit and caramel. Medium body with flavors of caramel malt, earthy hops, fruit and a bit of earthy hop. The finish is dark fruit and malt. Decent overall.

Toffee aromas, somewhat metallic, caramel, soft raisin. Hazy red-bronze with a mostly lasting off-white head. Malt-forward, nutty notes, toffee flavors, subtle herbaceous hops. Medium-full bodied.

Aromas of raisin, some mandarin orange, sweet caramel malt and minor milk chocolate. Creamy light biege head and thick red rusty body. Flavors of light smokey malt and cocoa with some light raisin and minor apple. Smooth on the palate.

Deep bronze and brown coloured body with a very nice ruby glow and a thick, three centimetre tall tan head - this looks great. Aroma of caramel, toffee, cream, alcohol, light yeast, a touch of metal and some minor pit fruits. Medium-bodied; Slightly watery up front with a large caramel presence and a noticeable toasted malt flavour, all with not much hops and not much complexity. Aftertaste has hints of fruits, some subtle malt and a smattering of yeast and metal - nothing really to show for the nice smells. Overall, a pretty poor offering after having such a great look and smell - this one just didn’t taste good and had absolutely no depth and complexity. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Made in Oregon in Portland (PDX Terminal C), Oregon on 05-May-2015 for US$5,25 sampled at home in Washington on 14-July-2015.

Keg at Gilgamesh, 10/11/14. Copper/amber with a decent beige swirl and edgeing. Nose is candied fruit peel, bitter orange, caramel. Taste comprises caramel malt, dark fruit, straw, bitter notes. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. So so, formulaic rewpub ScOtTiSh tedium.

Bomber from Walmart. Deep ruby in color upon pouring. Nose is dark fruit. Some prune and fig. Decent hoppiness. Lightly sweet up front. Lots of dark fruit with some roastiness. Finish is lightly hopped for a solid finish.

22. Pours a murky dark brown with a loose, scant tan head. Light rings of lace. Big caramel sweet nose, lots of darkly toasted shortbread cookies and caramel syrup. Sticky thick body with soft carb. Dark caramel syrup and cookies on the mid palate. Long earthy sweet finish.

UPDATED: JAN 26, 2015 A nice, very smooth beer. Pours a beautiful deep red with a tan head. Smells of salted caramel and a bit of tart cherries. Taste is very well balanced with more cherries, vanilla and caramel. Not much hop flavor. Smooth sweet finish. Had in the bottle.
