3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 cmonster (897) - Portland, Oregon, USA - OCT 25, 2012
Growler. Pours dark brown with almost no head. Big coffee, medium roast. And light sweetness. Light sweet, light bitter attack. Medium body, soft carbonation, mid thin texture, and a very roasty bitter, light hop bitter finish. I like this better as a schwarzbier or black ale. I dont get black ipa at all.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 maekchu (1090) - Hirakata, JAPAN - AUG 28, 2012
Draught at Bailey’s Taproom, Portland. Light coffee and roast malt aromas. Black, good lace. Boiled coffee initial flavors -- not mellow ,but rather harsh; mid palate goes absolutely nowhere; final has some mild bitterness which fades slowly. Thin body. A bit disappointing, really. The malt base is light and it seems as if the coffee was in the boil too long.

Draught @ Horse Brass Pub, Portland.
Pours dark red, almost color with small head. Aroma
of coffee, dark fruits, caramel and grass. Flavour
of coffee, chocolate, toasted malts and caramel. One
of the best coffee brews I’ve tasted.

Tap @ The BeerMongers... Poured near black with no head. Nose had strong amounts of coffee and roast. This was straight coffee bomb with only a little malt sweetness and hardly any hop presence. Failure as a BIPA/CDA, successful as a dark coffee beer.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 BrewDad (4256) - Olympia, USA - APR 24, 2012

Pint at Gilgamesh’s Lounge in downtown Salem. $4
Dark dark brown with a nice tan head..it was dark in the lounge!
Nice roasty coffee, strong porter mixed with resiny hop aromas.
Excellent creamy dark coffee taste up front then a nice dose of hop bitterness that lingers pleasantly.
Good mouthfeel to this one..thick and tasty.
Overall and excellent CDA..one of the better
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 Syzzer (449) - Oregon, USA - FEB 27, 2012
This is an excellent beer. It tastes of coffee without cream. It reminds me of a coffee stout but with a lager body. Although there is more complexity here than with a schwarzbier. It has a medium hoppy flavor, less than most CDAs I have had. Medium malts with a distinctive coffee burnt bitter aftertaste.

On tap. A nice India Dark Ale. Mild hoppyness with roasted malt and added coffee. Nice balance. An unusual but tasty finish.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Livid (49) - - JAN 23, 2012
Served on draft. Nice and dark, tan head, moderate lacing. Smells deeply of coffee, roasted malt, and pine. Medium body, nice carbonation. The flavor is typical of a black IPA or CDA, with added notes of coffee. I find this intriguing and delicious - coffee and beer are two of my favorite things. The coffee flavor does not overpower, and balances nicely with the roasted malt and hops.
